re: 1953-56 Queen Elizabeth II Side Profile (Complete set)

Robert,

Very nice presentation indeed. I looked in the Scott catalogue and find it is much more simplified -- not distinguishing "pale" from the original, as well as not referencing shades. (Or are these differences in color something other than shades?)

Perhaps my outlook is too simplistic, but I am surprised shades are given their own number in the ACSC -- if this is a dumb statement, I will accept admonishment and/or correction.

Re ACSC 294C Deep Violet Blue -- hard to see violet in that. Happy I am intrigued, can you see more of a hint of violet on the actual stamp (vice the scan). I enjoy these subtleties very much.

Thanks for posting this,
Eric

They are indeed shades and yes, they are actually listed in the ACSC. I have noticed how simplified the Scott catalogue is when it comes to Australian stamps.

I'll let you chose the form of punishment.

ACSC sees these shades as significant and actually prices them according to the strength of the shade, most likely these shades are more prominent.

Like you I cannot see the violet in the deep violet blue shade, but the specialist (35 years experience) who gave it to me said it is, he examined it under various lights and said that it was of a deep violet blue, so I'll take his word for it.
