Hi Cheril,

always interested... I can exchange them for what you need...
Jacques
Hi Cheryl--Your note indicates that the King George VI Coronation covers were issued from the train during their visit to Canada. The Royal couple did not visit Canada at the time of the coronation but came on an extended visit two years later in 1939.I collect covers from both these events and perhaps the following notes will clarify the difference in the cancellations for the two events.
1) Coronation Of King George VI--Canada issued SN 237 on May 10,1937 to mark the event .A special coronation flag cancel was used at 21 English post office locations and a French version was used in Montreal and Quebec City(Coronation H.M.King George VI May 12-1937--)
The cancel was used beginning on May 10th--day of issue of SN 237 and continued through May at some of the authorized post offices--In addition to the May10thday of issue cancels covers with a May 12th(actual coronation day) are sought out by collectors of this issue.
2)Royal Visit 1939--Canada issued a set of three stamps (#246-248) on May 15th to mark the Royal Visit. The tour was to have begun on May 15th but was delayed until May 17th due to a weather delay in arriving Fog off Newfoundland). The Royal couple travelled across Canada on the Royal Train between May 18th and June 7th at which time the train crossed over into the USA returning to Canada on June 12th until June 15 before departing from Halifax to Newfoundland and then on to England.Their are four types of cancels used on covers processed from the Royal train during the trip in Canada--"Flag cancel with English Hub-Royal train Canada" plus "Flag cancel and French Hub-Train Royal-Canada) There were also English and French Circular date cancels.Mail was cancelled along the route on the various dates of the trip with some dates being rather scarce due to the low number of covers cancelled on a particular day.Specialists in this area also collect covers of the same day but with the various time markings thus being able to more accurately determine the train location.Although I would not classify myself as a specialist I do collect the dates and the time markings--again some of the time markings are difficult to find.
During the Royal train visit to the USA the mail car was managed by USA postal authorities and they had a Royal train postmark for the event.
I became hooked on the covers etc from this event with well over 100 different items in the collection and counting
I have some specialized literature on the Royal train covers and will gladly provide you with more info on any of your covers--just send me a PM through SOR
You may have been aware of all this but when I see something on The Coronation or the subsequent Royal Visit I just like to share what info I have--what I provided is only an overview of the covers of these interesting issues--maybe you will get "hooked on them"
Regards
Harold
Hey Cheryl. Can you post a scan of what you are referring to?
I sometimes put aside what I think are interesting cancels and often lose track of them. and they end up in my remainder bin.
Would be interesting to start to put together a database of cancels people collect so they go to the right person!
Dave.
Awesome information....Thankyou Now it looks like I have a lot more to learn and search for......My scanner is on the blink Harold could you post some pictures of the different cancels ? I just have the flag cancels so far......
Good morning
Do we have any collectors of the 1937 Coronation Flag cancels on cover ? They were others issued during the Royals train ride across Canada in 1939 I have a few but not all of them Just wondering if there are any collectors on Stamporama I thank Harold for the info listed in a more recent post. Thus the correction in my first comment See I am learning more everyday.
