It was a rush job....rumor had it that at one time someone owned two of them but burnt one so he could claim to have the only ONE !
This past January, Mr. Barron, who is a reporter for the New York Times, gave a highly interesting and entertaining talk about the One Cent Magenta - while flogging his book at the same time - to the Collectors Club here in New York City.
I have to say, based on the talk and his knowledge of the material, I put the book at the top of my buy list. The release date was March 1st, and thanks to this thread I am reminded to go out and get a copy.

Its out there...Barnes and Noble has it displayed so even i could not miss it !
I just saw the stamp a couple of weeks ago at the Postal Museum and was wondering why someone hadn't written a book about its history. Now there is one!
Thanks
My wife went to Bath Bath and Beyond so i went next door to Barnes and Noble. I swear the first title i saw was "The One Cent Magenta" by James Barron. I was interested but not quite enough to lay out 23 bucks. It was interested that the magenta was created because a shipment of 50,000 stamps did not arrive from England. Fifty thousand sounds like a lot of stamps for a backwater place like British Guiana at the time. I liked the part of the book where the stamp belonged to John Dupont the nutsy chemical heir who killed a gold medal olympic wrestler and slept with magenta under his pillow when staying at a hotel.
