Nice find, Phil!

Interesting stamp in that it depicts vessels from three different eras. Fulton's steamship "Clermont," Henry Hudson's "Half Moon," and an Indian canoe, representing the first means of navigating the river. The ships are "anachronistically" depicted next to each other.
Celebrates the tercentenary of the discovery of the Hudson River and the centennial of its first navigation by steam - 1909.
Good find!

I think I'm gonna have to take a much closer look at that stamp;
it seems there is another canoe in the distance directly above the left numeral 2 and also possibly some tepees dead center of the image, far off to shore....
...interesting - never noticed those before!

I confess my U.S. collection is anemic...you could fire grapeshoot through my Washington -Franklin pages with little harm and the bureau issues may as well be Napolitan to me. BUt i do a lot of sorting and last night i found this unused #373 in a glassine of older U.S. stamps. So another spot filled in my United States !
