Scott catalog says Microprinted with USPS to right of pole under flag is number 5054 Booklet Value mint $1.00
Thanks but I think 5054 is the booklet. This may be hard to see but it is a coil stamp. The microprinting is in the same place because the printer was the same.
BCA (Banknote Corporation of America) often printed stamps for SSP (Sennett Security Products) with an "S" prefix (see 4127, 4131, 4133, 4187, 4191, 4158, 4391, and 4392 as recent examples). BCA also used a "B" prefix at times (see 3623, 3633, and 3784), but I think that means they were primary contractor. 3633A is an example of a stamp printed by Guilford Gravure for BCA with a B prefix.
It appears that the contract simply went directly to BCA, bypassing SSP, and Linn's hasn't caught up to that or you missed something in the fine print.
The other possibility is that an improper prefix was used and you might have a dandy error. I would hang on to it until proper documentation is published, just in case, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high.
That's my guess.
Lars
Thanks Lars. I have a bunch of them with an "S" but this is the only one that looks like a "B".
Try this Linn's link for info on the new B11111 plate number.
New plate number on Flag forever coil reflects printer changes
SSP was purchased by BCA and now some reprints have the B prefix.
Very good info in the Michael Baadke article!
This is why I love this club - great help from everyone!
Well done!

khj - oh thank you! I missed that article in Linn's. Appreciate the help.

Top image shows Scott # 5052 with plate number S11111
Middle image shows one I cannot identify (last image is a closeup).
According to Linn's, the Flag coils were only issued by Sennett and Ashton Potter. The Ashton Potter is a different die cut. It looks like a "B" to me but could it just be an overinked "S"? Die cut measures the same as the Sennett (11 vertical)
Any opinions welcome.
(By the way, these images were taken using a USB microscope from Celestron and Windows 10. I just plugged it into the USB port and the "Camera" app appeared. I had be putting off trying it since changing to Windows 10 after the problems others have reported.)
