Found a dozen of these. None were Perf 11 (#141) one was 13.1/2x14 (#175a) and the remainder 15x14 (#175). Ratios I would expect given CV.

Then there was a 14.1/2x14 Perf 17.1/2x21.1/2 Measurement which would put this as as #300.

Here's the issue: when I started to put a hinge on there was a clear 228 Wmk - but it is listed as "Unwmk" in my 2017 Scott's.

Thoughts? I'm prepared to put it on the page as #300 as everything but the Wmk is clearly fitting and different from all others.

Many thanks, Dave.

I am sure the experts on Australia will be of more help here. But the watermark would be hard for me to ignore. Happy

You could remove all doubt by buying another #300, as it is only a couple of bucks I believe. Just looked on eBay and there is a nice used one for 1.79.

Cheers!
Eric

Yoikes Eric! The CV is just $1.10 on #300. I'll keep looking, I have another shoe box to go through.

I'm assuming you are referring to the small one shilling lyrebird, rather than the larger one. The smaller one comes in the following types:

1. Multiple Crown and C of A Watermark (Perf 13.5 x 14)
2. Multiple Crown and C of A Watermark (Perf 14.75 x 14)
3. No watermark (Perf 14.75 x 14)

Hope this helps. This is from the Australian Commonwealth Specialists Catalogue

Thanks Rob. Looks like the Perfs can be a bit more fluid (15 = 14.75 ?) so I think the ultimate test is really no watermark for #300. Will pull out all the little buggers out of my shoebox and have another go at them. Fortunately found another envelope of oldies last night that had a dozen more.

Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave

I'm glad I was able to help, and it seems you will be having hours of quality time with that shoebox.

re: Confusing 1Sh Lyrebird Perf

Thanks Rob. I have a 13.25x... 15x... and Unwmk version of each of the 1930s/40s definitives that I found so I'm stopping there.

I find Wmk detection to be particularly unenjoyable. Unfortunately finished going through all the piles last night and have probably 8-10 old 'Roos and maybe 40 George V's.

I put them aside as I can't bear the thought of the same agony checking-agony. Probably disturbing to "real" Australia collectors (and I understand there could be some decent CVs in there) but I think I'm just going to keep one of each denomination and the rest will go on the block...

Dave.
