Great story! I assume the boy's name was Scott? Got confused at first thinking you were talking about Scott the company.
I wish I had a local club with 30 members!
I belong to a local stamp club that consists of about 20 very active members and another 10 that just belong. About eight months ago, a woman from the next town over, brought her 11 year old son to one of our monthly meetings. He had shown an interest in stamp collecting and she wanted to capitalize on this and reduce her fear that video games are all he will ever do. Three months ago, Scott brought in a stamp display on Olympic stamps. He was very excited to show it at the meeting because he won 1st place for his exhibit at our local fair(large blue ribbon),and a cash prize of $5 to boot. He has found his calling to be Olympic stamps.
Last month I made a purchase from Subway Stamps and bought their last stamp packet on Olympic stamps. I also purchased some stamp tongs as Scott has only an old pair of tweezers to work with. I remember well how it was when I started out and "paying it forward", so close to Christmas is a gift to myself. If any of our SRO members have some extra Olympic stamps, I've a young collector who would love to receive them.
