Hello Everyone,
Just thought I'd say hi, as it's been a VERY long time since I have done much on this site (discussion board says 2011 was my last post). Went through a divorce and moved a couple of times since then. Now that my boy is a bit older and not requiring my full time attention, I'm picking up the philatelic bug again. I hope everyone has been well and look forward to interacting with the community once again.

Allen, welcome back. San Jose Stamp Club, or Sequoia Stamp Club in Redwood City, would welcome your participation. Please consider attending a meeting if you can work out transportation.

Anglophile,
I appreciate the invite, but San Jose and Redwood City are quite a haul from Mountain House. I used to belong to Diablo Valley up in Walnut Creek, and even that got to be too much with my work schedule and 1 1/2 hour commute.

Understood. As a reminder, two stamp shows are coming up in the area: the Sacramento Stamp Show (first weekend of January) and the Great American Stamp Show at Napredak Hall in San Jose (second weekend of January). APS' Ameristamp Stamp Show in Reno, NV also isn't far off and a number of Bay Area people are going. Further out in the spring, WESTPEX near SFO in April.

@JanSimon - It is, indeed, a Gibson Explorer. I also have an SG and a Les Paul.

@Anglophile - Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to attend at least a couple of those. I've missed WestPex and Filatelic Fiesta. Always a bunch of fun!

re: Returning to the Fold

Hi Allen;

Welcome back, to another guitarist and music lover.

I was always a big fan of the sixties folk music scene. PP&M, Kingston Trio, The Browns, Pete Seeger, Ian & Sylvia, Chad & Jeremy, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, and many others were my favorites.

I had a 12-string Epiphone acoustical guitar, and it was the only way to get that PP&M sound, which I found intoxicating, to listen to.

My all time favorite movie, has to be "The Commitments", about a bunch of Dublin street kids that tried to form a soul music group.

Keep on jammin'....

re: Returning to the Fold

I don't play guitar. But just watched an old video of Dire Straits playing Sultans of Swing...Mark Knopfler. Wonderful. Guitar is an amazing instrument.

Welcome back to stamps. I am recently back myself after a couple of decades, collecting Great Britain, Australia and US. Mainly US now, as the Australia and GB open spots in my albums are getting to be in the ridiculous range ($). Not that the US stamps aren't getting that way as well. Sigh. But, 19th century US has my full attention for the time being.

Cheers!
Eric

@DavidG - Wow, good to hear from you! I was poking through my Americana collection last night and read through some of our old correspondence on the subject. Fun stuff, good memories!

re: Returning to the Fold

Hi Allen;

I've always been fascinated by musicians that have their own "sound" that no one else can call theirs. PP&M had it on the twelve string, Chet Atkins had it on the electric guitar, Chuck Mangione on the flugelhorn, and Fats Waller and later Fats Domino on the piano.

I hope that you enjoy our new feature "approvals", with lots of good sellers there.

Just stampin'....
