The mission of Stamporama:
"Stamporama is a club that fosters, develops and otherwise enhances the avocation of stamp collecting by freely offering various services commonly found in all aspects of the hobby for the benefit of its registered members."
"The Discussion Board where you can discuss stamp questions with other members of Stamporama."
The members of the Management Team (MT) have occassionally discussed politics and other hot topics being included in the DB. Our recent foray into the US election cycle brought this up several more times. Efforts at civility have met with mixed results. Efforts at changing anyone's mind have, if I read things correctly, been an abysmal failure. In sum, God created Mark Zuckerberg so we don't have to do this.
Henceforth, we're going to limit ALL discussions to things philatelic. Politics are acceptable only when they help inform the history of a stamp, a cover, or the period in which it was used. Politics, for its own sake, is now just off limits.
We also know that there are a number of us with passions that extend to other collecting interests, and want those to be available here for discussion. So our change is, as follows:
Quote:
""The Discussion Board is provided for the purpose of discussion of philately and issues related to Stamporama. Discussions not related directly to stamp collecting or Stamporama, except for the "Other Hobby and Collectable Interests" topic, will be removed.""
Please note that we didn't undertake this lightly. It's been discussed a number of times, and we haven't made the decision until we were unanimous.
We're still talking about how to handle the extant posts, but for now, please don't respond to those, other than those responses that bring us back to philately.
David and a very bi-partisan MT
