My most complete collection is Guatemala including postal history and back of book. Many of my better stamps are Germany and Italy from the first half of the 20th century.

Cool! Did you set out in the beginning to collect those countries?

I know for me, most of my better or more complete collections, started per chance with a large batch, then I built on those collections as I went along.

A Service Dog gives a person with a disability independence. Never approach, distract or pet a working dog, especially when (s)he is in harness. Never be afraid to ask questions to the handler (parent).

re: Some thoughts about My stamps

For some reason I came across a Prussia stamp once and fell in love. From there, it branched out into other German States and then to the rest of Germany. When I got to DDR, I realised my DDR collection could never be complete without its owner - the USSR. This began my USSR collection.

I was at a show one time and came across some nice British Royalty stamps. Then I found the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and that branched off to the coronation of her parents and then to her Jubilee and continued into the Royal Wedding. Continuing with the Queen Mum, I came across some 85th birthday souvenir sheets which led me on a hunt to find the other issues for her 85th and then back to her 80th. After the death of Princess Diana, I found a souvenir sheet of her alongside Mother Teresa. This began my Princess Diana memorial collection.

Being a Canadian, I've had lots of Canadian stamps packed into cigar boxes etc and one day I opened my Unitrade catalogue and it opened to Nova Scotia. I fell in love with those stamps and this began my Nova Scotia collection that is only one stamp short. Of course that led to a love of other Queen Victoria stamps and a new collection was born.

A discussion of US revenues a number of years ago set me on a path to find out if there were Canadian revenues and now a stockbook is amongst my albums with a modest Canadian revenues collection.

At one time I had a mishmash world collection/horde but sold it off. I've recently acquired two sets of 1943 Scott Junior International albums and this begins a new venture into worldwide collecting.

Among my research into various methods of postal delivery when reading books to create the Gazette, I came across railway stamps and remembered Belgian Railways in one of the few countries I had saved when I sold my world stamps. A new interest was born, particularly when I began studying the routes of Belgian Railways and the differences between government and private lines. Fascinating history!

I've a miniature collection of breast cancer awareness stamps as a personal project to show my journey battling breast cancer, thanks to the generosity of many SOR members.

Having lost most of my sight, I just - this past week - discovered embossed envelope stamps and no doubt that will become an interesting experience.

It appears that for me, it's not an "I want to collect ..." - it's whatever catches my eye at a certain moment that slowly grows into a collection of sorts.

Now if I could only get my spare room emptied out, I'd be able to find out where I put a few items that I know I have, just don't know where!

WB negative, i started out as a worldwide collector...i read an article in the Global Stamp News that showed some of the large Quetzal stamps of 19th century Guatemala and i was hooked. I joined the International Society of Guatemala collectors and in 1999 i was visiting my Dad in Bradenton and Americas 99 was going on in Orlando, i learned the Guatemala club had a table at the show so we went over and i met the fellows and we went out to dinner with them that evening and became instant friends.

Lol - I have a spare room but just as we start to get it cleaned out, it mysteriously finds itself with more things! So the goal is to have it totally accessible by spring. Although that's been the goal for the past 7 years, hopefully this will be the year it happens.

I work on my stamps on the couch with occasionally one of them flip tables.

It's that mantra every week - "we gotta clean out that room" - "yup ..."

re: Some thoughts about My stamps

My best collection is my Franklins! I've been collecting the 1 cent stamp from the series of 1902 since the mid 1970s. I paused collecting in the 1980s but kept all of my stuff. I rediscovered my Franklin collection when eBay appeared and I was able to buy my first booklet pane, something I always wanted and had never seen in person! I was hooked again. In the past near 20 years that eBay has been around, I've managed to collect every private perforation and variety, some on cover. And every possible usage, of both 300 and 314.

I finally dug into my hoard last summer after my wife had heart surgery and we were in the house for 8 weeks. I always said I'd sort it all out and put together a USA collection. I started that and found I had a pretty good collection of mixed, singles, plate blocks and covers. I've been putting that into albums ever since. That collection comes to an abrupt halt around 1980 when I stopped collecting. I don't know if I will add much later stamps.

I do have some small country collections in stock books. When I started collecting back as a kid I lived in Germany so I have a fair West German collection. I never put any effort into collecting world wide.
