Can you visualise the image on a stamp, as well as its written content - or do you have to know what the stamp is beforehand? I imagine your sense of touch is considerably more developed than that of a fully-sighted person - engraved stamps should prove a treasure-trove of new experience!
I can visualise it without looking at it. When I look at a stamp - I see a blur until I get it very close to my eyes or I put it on the tv with my magnifier. So that blur becomes a real stamp under my finger tip.
It's cool.
Kelly,
You might remember me mentioning the OTT-Lite Workstation in another thread. Well I went back to Costco last week to see if they still had it. Typically, they had the light that I had bought and another model but not the workstation.
I shall 'endeavour to persevere'.
That's right - I forgot about that. I'm going to look into it.
Thanks!
I actually just discovered this "new talent" when I got the 1943 albums because there were American envelope stamps that are fantastically engraved. I'm thinking that may be another new interesting collecting area because I can enjoy them without my eyes. The details in those engravings are amazing!
Differentiation of paper type has always been challenge for me. Perhaps your enhanced tactile skills can make short work of such dilemmas!
Lars
Perhaps - I've always had a hard time trying to figure out what kind of paper is used. The only one I have down to a science is prelure.
There is one thing about having low vision or being blind. My "reading finger" or my only finger I have sensation in a small spot is very sensitive to detail. Since I read in Braille, I decided to try "my hand" at engraved stamps. Wow! What a fantastic experience. The minute details come alive and there's a picture at the tip of your finger.
