Vince, interesting indeed. Good article and photographs.

In 1956 or so, I put a quarter into an envelope and sent off for an Archie Comic Annual Edition comic book. I remember it to this day--because the comic never arrived. I'm still a little bit upset. The letter probably didn't end up in the Dead Letter Office however; it was more likely purloined by someone who felt the quarter bulging through the side of the envelope. Or it could have been lodged in a Post Office machine not expecting a quarter, causing damage to the quarter and machine and shredding the envelope. A bitter life lesson.
