Yesterday I was cleaning up some miscellaneous sheets and pages of stamps and found this on a sheet of several hundred Sower stamps. This was the only stamp of this denomination so it showed up like a beacon in the night. Then I saw a couple of holes in it and had to pick it out for better examination and thought my old eyes were playing tricks on me, again. Am I mistaken, or is that a running chicken? Can't be many of the 'running around', can there?

Are there any web sites that have extensive information on perfins? I would love to learn more about them.

Adam, information regarding perfins is country-specific. A good place to start is the Perfin Society/Club of the country you are interested in.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a perfin that was anything other than letters or numbers.

Interesting!

Some years ago I traded the perfins I found with Andre Oor, a Dutch collector, for his used duplicates and some then current Dutch sets. There were quite a few with creative designs including that I recall one of a lyre as I almost kepi it for myself.
