I have a number of what Green's calls Windshield Decals from France. Other places call them Grande Vignettes. My question is basically what are these and what were they used for. (I actually listed a couple here at auction and they had no interest) Image Not Found

Thanks

Greg

They are lovely - what size are they? Are they a water based decal or a peel off sticky?

re: Windshield Decals

Size depends on the artist. Most are 3 3/4 x 5 3/4. I need to get a new Greens to find out true value. I don't know if they would actually adhere to a windshield. It could be that they are simply called decals and have nothing to do with decals as we know them. They are large version of the Christmas or Charity seals issued by France except that they have denominations, some as high as 1000 fr.

re: Windshield Decals

They are most likely charity labels. This one going to an organization that gives children and teenagers an opportunity to go to a vacation "camp". Face value would be the donation amount.

This is probably similar in nature to the "America the Beautiful" label with the donation price on another post.
