In your opinion, what would be the best specialized Australian Stamp Book?

Update: I did check on eBay and there is one book listed there but it is two years old. I'm looking for the latest published. It is published by Renniks. Do you know if they are the best? Just looking for some help here before I buy and then find out I should have looked for a different publisher.

If you are really into Australia
Australian Commonwealth Specialists Catalogue (Brusden White)
However, many volumes & $$$
Less expensive and very good
Comprehensive' Catalogue of Australian Stamps
It is wire bound so it opens flat - 2 volumes - my personal choice
and of course the Gibbons Specialized
Some of the specialized do not publish every year
I believe that Renniks is a publishing house that handles all kinds of catalogs
look them up for pricing

JW, thanks for the reply.
SG is a thorn in my side at this moment in time.
Renniks will cost me about $70 something after the heavy shipping as they are located in Australia.
I will check into Brusden White. Am I guessing they are the publishers for the wire bound that you prefer?
I'm not really looking for a yearly publish like Scott's. One catalogue will probably do me just fine for many many years.

VST Comprehensive' Catalogue of Australian Stamps is published in Australia also

Got it from a well know mod of the big Australian Stamp forum
He had a good deal some years back
Difficult to find and not recent

Yes, I was just checking all them out. I saw Glenn had a good deal going back in 2007-08. Was looking to see if Victoria Traders had an updated catalogue and doesn't seem to happen. I will probably end up with Renniks, not spiral bound as we both like, but it will give me the education I believe I'm looking for.
Unless you've heard bad things about Renniks? I mean am I looking in the right direction?

not what you want. It's a simple pocket catalogue (A5) listing all stamps with illustrations and not much else. I found an illustration of a sample page. You'll see what I mean.

The Brusden and White publications are the top of the line. You can just pick one or two books to specialize in as well.

I have used the KGV book several times. Thankfully there is a copy in our local philatelic library, so no need to buy.

My library is so little that I can run from side to side in about 2 seconds! For stamp books, they do have the full set of Scott's and maybe a Brookman, I think.
The Stanley Gibbons did come through and has been a wonderful help. Now to find the time, it's out there, somewhere ...

Reniks is not an author but a publisher as in RENICKS PUBLISHING and the listing you pointed to only illustrates one of many they carry.
Smauggie got it right, if you have the $$$ the B.W. series are the best
The VST is a close second but probably out of print
Chances of finding either at a good price on an auction - very slim.

Why not check with some of the members on the Australian section of the discussion board to see what they recommend. I have purchased material from Snowy12 (Brian Holmes) who lives in Australia and he seems quite informative on the area.

if your looking for specialised books on australian stamps, the brusden white do a good book. they do one for the kangaroos, one for the kgv heads, another that does the pre-decimals, and for the decimals theres three so far. not sure what year the decimals go upto, eg-2016/
brusden white is also commonly known as ACSC and has a maroon cover. you can get them as loose leaf or soft cover book style, which is how ive gone about it.
there is also a three volume set called the comprehensive australian cataloge or something like that, not sure who publishes that one but i have seen it go fairly cheap on ebay for one a couple years old.
you can quite often find the brusden white on ebay as well and pick up a copy thats a couple years old rather cheap.

That is why the most up to date issue is not the best choice when starting a new area.
First off, the latest issue of any printed catalog is a year or more old the day the printing press finishes running. That is the lead time needed to produce these books.
Other than one issue of Facit some years ago, all my reference catalogs are at least two or three years old when I buy them. Specialist areas really do not move that fast.
About the only exception I know of is the Deegam Handbook of Machin Stamps because it is a disc and can be updated, copied and placed in the mail stream in a matter of days.

I do believe I'm ready to dive into a specialized catalog for Australia, but not sure where to start looking or in what direction.
