Now that the 72 hours have passed. Any updates?
CUPW (Canadian Union of Postal Workers) has asked for a 30-day "cooling off" period. CPC (Canada Post Corporation) agreed, if they go to binding arbitration, which CUPW has refused earlier. We'll know Monday morning what is going on.
It looks like CPC is calling CUPW's bluff.
Here is the latest from the Toronto Globe and Mail: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/union-calls-for-30-day-truce-with-canada-post-amid-contract-standoff/article30816649/
Meanwhile, my UPS delivery man was at work, yesterday. He was clearly over-worked. He said Amazon.ca has stopped using CPC and is now using them. Major companies across Canada have stopped using Canada Post.
This one's going to messy messy, I think.
Will keep you posted.

Canada post letter income is down significantly.
What is really saving them is the increase in online shopping - Amazon, Ebay ...
Overall their profits are decent.
If they lose this business, CPC will have a valid excuse for saying
"we can't afford concessions"
More loss of income could lead to Privatization. A few opportunists are probably thrilled with this new development.
A few years ago the CPC had plans of expansion into banking & other financial offerings.
Suddenly the plan was dropped and instead cutbacks and closures were announced.
Being engaged with your losses instead of potential gains does not work long term.
Amazon.ca has announced it is no longer shipping via Canada Post. Sears Canada and Canadian Tire have done the same.

The old "shoot oneself in the foot" routine.
Canada Post has issued a 72-hour lockout notice, as of Tuesday, July 5th.
Here we go again, folks!
Don't mail anything to, or from Canada.
