To me, it looks like the red color is present, but shifted, while all the other colors are in correct position. This is what the red omitted looks like:
The 2016 Scott catalog value for #2479b is $500. However...
I'm not convinced you have the red omitted color error. One one pane was ever discovered, and it is correct that there is significant color misregistration. On a genuine red omitted error, I believe you can see a background yellow shifted BELOW the stamp. This is not evident in yours.
Yours appears to be simply a 1-2 color misregistration to the left. I would suggest you get it expertized -- I would defer to the experts or a picture showing an expertized #2479b without the shifted background yellow.
Just my non-expert but honest opinion. Sorry.
OK, Sean posted while I was typing. I am in agreement with Sean's post.
I can see the difference. It does look more like a color shift than the missing red error. Does the stamp with the color shift have any special value? I think that my neighbor was bamboozled on these stamps and others as well. For these he may have to find an expert... Any ideas for him? Thanks, Big Daddy Dave
The color misregistration, although not really that much, does make the fawn's legs interesting, and that's what EFO collectors look for. However, I would say under $10 (my opinion), and only to the interested EFO collector.
Your neighbor might still have some good material. Even the best dealers still make an occasional mistake. Try posting some more stamp pics and let us take a look. The promising ones, you can always submit for expertizing.
I'm trying to help a non-collector evaluate some stamps that he purchased in the early 2000's. He has a an attached pair of A1843 with the red omitted from the Fawn's forelegs and the colors shifted as per Scott's description. My Scott catalog is dated (2011) but it shows that a single one of these miscues is worth $725.00. (Catalog value) What might one expect for these stamps at fair market value? An estimate or range would be appreciated. Also, what value is shown in the most recent Scott catalog?
I'm working my way through his small group of "Collectible" purchases. Thanks for any assistance.
Big Daddy Dave
