The truth is within and only you can reveal it

This stamp has confounded me for a long time. It appears to be South Australia from the cancel and it is on wove paper and is deep Purple. I'm thinking it is probably a stationary cut out. Can anyone shed some light on it please?

re: BC? Mystery stamp HELP

I believe it is a cut-out from South Australia newspaper wrapper, although the paper looks whiter than the ones I've normally seen. Unfortunately, I don't have a H&G catalog to eliminate any other possibilities.

Not sure how long this image link will stay active:

South Australia newspaper wrapper

The shading on the Queen's neck is different. On yours, slightly tilted, but on the newspaper wrapper it is nearly horizontal. So it is not that specific newspaper wrapper.

Need somebody with an H&G or specialized Australian States catalog to chime in.

KHJ, Thanks for the quick reply! A year(s) of use would be nice to know if anyone has that information or any other, I would appreciate.

Excellent Stephen!!!

That link explains the differences in the neck shading I saw. Looks like Mitch's cut-out is indicia W1 (the earlier die). So that makes it 1882.

Thanks much for the info, I can finally put a name to it. I had thought that it was probably older than it is because of the poor print quality.
