Another one from the "Bisects, Bisects and More Bisects" pages.

The basic stamp in this appears to be Turkey Scott 54. It is overprinted but the overprint is not to be found in Scott (At least when I looked). Any information even guesses would be appreciated! Thanks, biggeorge

re: Now a Turkey (?) bisect??

Hi George,

This is a private local issue allowed for postage in Baghdad in 1890 and is listed but not priced in my old Michel catalogue.

The characters at the bottom of the surcharge read "1P" for one piastre.

I've not seen this before outside of the catalogue so have no idea if this one is genuine or not.

Here is the page from the ISFILA catalogue. (200TL = 70USD)

ISFILA has a cross-reference table for the Michel catalog. ISFILA #YP166 is listed in Michel simply as Lokalausgaben-Baghdad II.

re: Now a Turkey (?) bisect??

I have been a member of SOR for almost 10 years now and I am continually amazed at the expertise that the members have! From Nigel beginning the ID of this Turkey item to Ted posting a copy of the detailed explanation of what this item is! Whether it is a question about why a stamp would have one or more straight edges or an esoteric question about an overprinted Turkish bisect for use at Baghdad. If an answer exists, SOR members will find it and are always more than willing to share it!

Thank you all for making this club a true asset in the philatelic world.

George
