OH heck, I thought we had a few mind readers in our midst, but then I thought, maybe there is not a mind here for anyone to read! Sorry for the corn-fusion!
Mike
They are revenue stamps from Republic of China.
Thanks Samliu, no wonder I can't find them in my Scott's.
Mike
As mentioned, these are Great Wall revenue stamps that were first issued in 1913, later re-engraved/reprinted varieties and tens of thousands of local overprints+variations.
The 2c stamp in the lower right is Peking local overprint.
Both 1c stamps are the original Type I printing.
The lower left stamp appears to have the Mukden Provincial Department of Finance overprint of 1917, even though it is a Type I printing that pre-dates 1916. So it is probably old stock that got overprinted.
Sorry, I don't have a catalog for this issue, so I can't give you a catalog ID number.
khj,
That's ok, I was more or less curious about them, hoping for something very rare of course, but if I have them they can't be rare. I have some China stamps listed now so they should be a nice surprise for someone, assuming the lots get bids of course.
Mike
Found these little gems that have been hidden away for a few years, probably because I couldn't identify them. Well guess what? I still can't, so would appreciate some assistance with that task. The over-printed ones definitely have different over-prints.
Thanks in advance.
