davos - swiss origin ... could be local
I'd guess this is a German charity label in aid of a sanatorium for German soldiers in Davos in Switzerland.
I've also seen a one mark value in blue.
There is also a 5 Mark value in gray-green. The labels would have been issued around 1918 or later.
Davos Dorf is one of 2 sections of the city of Davos (the other being Davos Platz). The sanitorium at Davos was renowned for its success in treating patients with tuberculosis. Robert Louis Stevenson completed writing "Treasure Island" during a stay there, and Thomas Mann was inspired to write "The Magic Mountain," during the time he was there, while his wife was being treated.
The German Warrior Sanitorium was established in 1918 to treat World War I soldiers with lung ailments from tuberculosis or poison gas.
Thanks to everyone for your inputs. They are greatly appreciated.
It seems to me that these labels have better stories behind them than the real
postage stamps.
adolf hitler also began public healthcare in germany to assist WW1 wounded. a first in europe
Again another German stamp that I cannot identify. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
