Thanks for posting this, I have been aware of these for some time. They are the only album publisher I know of doing albums for Middle Eastern countries. I will follow this thread as I am interested in finding a home for an Egypt collection I have had for years and not looked at much, mainly due to lack of a suitable album- am not crazy about Steiner pages.
Clay,
Maybe you can contact the company and request a sample page. Won't tell you anything about the binders, but at least you can hold and feel a page in your hand.
Chris
I have reached out to them with a few questions and the hope that they can send one page.
Awaiting their response.
Great, let us know what you find out and/or post a scan.
Emailed them Tuesday and have not heard any response.
I'll probably write a follow up tomorrow.
Clay
I seem to recall doing that some years back and never getting anything. The site is a bit odd; they leave out a lot of detail about their products.
Hmmm. I don't expect TOO much given the price point and I love the idea of the album being in English and the native language.
Given they say on their site they've been publishing since 1956, I find it odd I can't find anyone who has physically seen one of their albums.
The web site seems to show the mounts are split back in design.
My guess is that these pages would be rather plain, similar in design and quality to Lighthouse or Davo. They would not be like White Ace in design. The page size is large (10-5/8" x 11-5/8")... same size as Linder pages
I imagine that the reason they are not widely known is that they are limited to a small area of collecting interest... only 16 Middle East countries.
As far as the price appearing attractive, I would want to know what the coverage is. Do they cover varieties, or just the simplified issues?
Clay, I'd bet you never heard back, am I right?
I have lately run into a lot of indifference from philatelic publishers when asking for clarification/help in ordering their products. Especially those based in Europe. I have a couple of Bolaffi albums (Italian) and have been trying to get pages and binders for expansion but cannot get my questions responded to re shipping costs and payment. They seem incapable of communicating other then in Italian. Have sent two inquiries, both got a generic reply thanking me for my 'input'. So much for them.
What they use to call it in the Good Old Days was "Customer Service". Something almost as rare as hen's teeth today. Everyone wants your business, but they don't want to do anything for it. It's not just the small businesses that do it that way, the big businesses are even worse, at least down here. I can't begin to tell you how many times I made a call to someone about something we needed, made an appointment and we never even see nor hear from them again. Needless to say we don't call them a second time.
Mike
Snick, you are correct, I never heard back.
I contemplated writing again, but never got around to it. Disappointing and sadly, my poor customer service experiences from philatelic businesses is not limited to overseas companies.
I sent an email to the Western Philatelic Library, inquiring about tear sheets they offer. It has been a week, now, and no reply.
Ted
Ted, I'm not excusing anything, but WPL is totally volunteer run. Maybe if you haven't heard anything soon, give them a call just to follow up.
Thanks, Dave. I have sent an email to the info@ email address. We'll see how that goes.
I have used MOM Egypt for many years. They are reasonably good quality, and cover basic issues only, no varieties. Sometimes the mounts are not quite the right size (on the large size).
However, when I last contacted the to get the update pages for 2015, I discovered that the owner had passed away. His son told me, in broken English, that they had stopped producing albums, but would start again. He has not contacted me since, and I haven't emailed him to find out if they have started again.
In the meantime I have tried to buy Lighthouse, but that was hopeless. lighthouse sell through an agent in the UK, who doesn't sell Egypt. Their website will not allow sales to UK as they use the agent!
I have 2 Lindner Falzos T albums from 1971-1985 and from 1985-1996 and they are superb.
I bought them used, with some stamps in them, from a dealer who had picked the more expensive stamps and just wanted to recover some of his costs.
I wish I could find one more for the earlier stamps of Egypt.
I use Steiner pages, and I am very pleased with them. Of course you have to provide the mounts which require a whole bunch of odd sizes.
rrr....
On another forum, a hingeless album from MOM Albums http://www.momalbums.com/index.html was mentioned.
I like the price point for these hingeless albums, even with overseas shipping, but the company is new to me.
Has anyone seen in person or held one of their albums. If so, can you give some indication to the quality of the pages, binder, etc.?
