Just wondering if our UK members could help?
I have a collection of pillar boxes on stamps from the UK and colonies. I have a few friends in the UK who have taken photos of the pillar box (post box) near their homes and emailed them to me. I have added the photos and a bit of village history to my collection Just wondering if any of the stamporama members would kindly do the same?
HappyMany thanks Cheryl

A couple of old boxes from the British Mandate still standing in Jaffa ! Made in London and Falkirk.

Another double box, this one stands outside the Old Postal Museum just around the corner from St.Paul's cathedral in London. As you can see below, it keeps Rowland Hill company during the busy day. Across the road, behind those 3 brick pillars, is the fascinating Postman's Park.

This one is also 'Made in Scotland' and is situated on a quiet lane curiously named Mount Zion ! It's in Leigh, Southend, Essex NOT in Jerusalem !

Image Not Found

The one below is situated outside the Butter Market in Hereford.

Image Not Found

Finally, 2 from the small Market town of Buckingham, once the county town of their 'Shire'. This must be one of the smallest towns in the world to host TWO, yes 2 Post Offices !! They are within a stone's throw of each other. The top pic shows what might be described as the ugliest postbox in England. The lower ones identical 'twins' outside the newer post office.

POSTBOXES of BUCKINGHAM !!

Apart from having 2 large Post Offices and the Boxes already shown, Buckingham can boast a rather good selection around this beautiful market town. I am sure there are many more too, unseen by me on my 5-hour trek.
First up is a nice EIIR box and well kept it is too. Notice the 'day plate' is missing as they mostly are these days...at least to my eye !

Image Not Found

A 'VR' wall box with vertical information plate, situated in a quiet area of the town. Most likely does not see much paper !!

Image Not Found

Another type of 'VR' wall box, again with no day plate. This one has an Horizontal information plate.

Image Not Found

A GvR wall box and this one has the Day plate !! Must be rare !! By W.J.Allen & Co of London.

Image Not Found

The last one is EIIR box and is situated in the company of a Phone box !! As I stared at this odd scene I thought how unusual a town this Buckingham must be. No one has a Mobile phone or computer !!? Thinking At least one could 'kill two birds with one stone' in this road !!

Here's a site you may be interested in: the Letter Box Study Group. It is rather awkwardly designed and frustrating as the postbox images themselves are not identified. Although these may be elsewhere on the site. Use the index on the left hand side of the screen to navigate.

Here's a wonderful example from that site, of what appears to be a combination telephone kiosk and postbox and stamp vending machine; I think this is a KGV type but I can't tell as I can't see the cypher:

And here's a short BBC News video, which gives a different slant on 'tree hugging'.....

Meet the British postbox enthusiasts

There also appears to be just a very short video reporting on the postbox on the bridge, that was posted earlier on this thread.

Thanks for the post...I was unable to find the video of the bridge post box...will try again later tonight Thinking
And I found that this pillar box frontage (over 100 years old) appeared mysteriously on the bridge over the Thames river in the village of Sonning -on-Thames.
The village is noted for its stories like that of sightings of a ghostlike child crossing that same bridge. Royal Mail says they were not aware of the pillar box and it is certainly not in operation (10 Sept 2013Amazing what you can fHappyind by googling post box on UK bridge!!!!)

The Postbox shown by Ningpo is in Frodsham, Cheshire I believe. they are called Mini Post Offices and only 4 remain from the Original fifty that were made. They are all Grade II listed 'buildings'.

The video of the Postbox on the bridge at Sonning-on-Thames should be viewable here....

I didn't take these photos. I bought these pages at a stamp auction just for the fun of it. I thought they would look good in the British collection. I am sorry I don't know anything about any of them. I just like them.
