I'd like to pick up a couple of "bragging rights" stamps. $4 columbian, $1 Trans-mississippi maybe the Zeppelins. They'll probably be layaway projects unless......I hit the Powerball Wednesday night!

I will be finishing my Europa album. Only 50 plus years need to mounted! Then to complete the whole collection. Just found a mentor to help me with this project. Big undertaking, but one that will be completed. The album by February, the completed collection (at least up to 2015) as the funds will accept.
Go to more shows and hopefully meet a few of my internet stamp friends face to face.
Excellent goals guys and gals, best of luck to you!!
My main goal will be Israel. I've got just a handful of spaces to fill between '52-'85. If business is good this year, I'll work on '48-'51. If it slows up a bit, '86-present. I'm determined to complete the collection all in MNH with tabs. Those earliest issues will be tough.
I'd also like to focus on my Christmas and Scouting collections. These both date back to my earliest days of collecting and have been long neglected. I've never really collected covers, but Christmas covers may be an area I take a hard look at this year.
As with every year, filling holes in the U.S. collection is always a goal. I'd like to get a little deeper into the B.O.B. stamps. This is another area I've not spent much time on.
WB
Do I have a stamp collection? Oh, right! That's what all those folder, boxes and envelopes are!!
My goal - start actually making time to play with my collection. Without set times to do so, it tends to get put off forever...
1) Work those piles: sort'n'cull, sort'n'cull, sort'n'cull ...
2) Sell-off the stuff I have set aside to sell-off.
3) Ignore #1 and #2, and shop for more little beauties, instead.
Cheers,
/s/ ikeyPikey
My goal besides getting another year under my belt is to get a good easy to use printer-scanner in the stamp room so I can start putting duplicates up for grabs.
I'd like to get more organized, have collections in albums so I can leaf through and enjoy them.
I am going to work more on the countries of my childrens ancestry THe Neherlands and Italy. Its no wonder i am confused my mothers father was on the Austria Hungary side of the valley so he was in a Austrian alpine unit and the guys a town or two away were in an Italian alpine unit.I think the Italians suggested we leave after the war..fine with me !
My biggest goal for the year is to attend the World Stamp Show 2016 in New York. As most of us know, this international show only happens once every ten years. As the date approaches, I hope that we SOR members can plan a get-together at the event.
May i present Claudio Monteverdi and characters from Orfeo..i am having great fun sorting newer Italy by year and i needed him for my 1967 pages !
Douglas, i realize that many people are working and can only make the New York mega shows on weekends. I try to avoid Saturday if i can help it and will not go on the last day..i feel the earlier i get there the better. The Washington 2006 was the biggest thing i ever saw and they say this one may be larger. I know what i would call a medium size dealer..not huge..but he wants to do the show either for the atmosphere or bragging rights..i heard the tables rent for $10-15 thousand. You have to sell a lot of stamps to make that up !
Hi all;
2016 Goals:
Mount more stamps with hinges.
Sort more stamps for new collectors to buy (all different packets).
Sort more better material and classics for the auctions.
Space my 2 allowed re-lists at least 4-5 months apart.
Reduce my active auctions from all time high of 800+ down to 200-300, so I can have more time for the first three above.
Be nicer to the Jedi and show them that sandpeople can be nice too....well not too nice!
Work on some of my research ideas to share with other collectors.
Where did I leave that lightsaber....

" i realize that many people are working and can only make the New York mega shows on weekends. I try to avoid Saturday if i can help it and will not go on the last day.."
Goals for 2016:
1. Complete mounting the "Liberation and Victory" section of my WW2 Commemoration collection: 32 pages so far and up to 25th anniversaries.
2. Then make a start on (probably) the "Resistance" section of the above. This will take much longer, since there are stories to research on nearly all named resisters, and those from unfamiliar countries (say Albania) are going to be difficult to find out about.
3. See where else my "Russian" theme of 2015 might take me.
4. Finding something interesting to say about any of this for SOR readers.
Benfranklin, i agree..we were in D.C. 3 days in 2006 for the show and it was Memorial Day weekend..it was just crazy ! Got to see a free show on the Capitol lawn !
Goals:
Finish creating DDR pages and mounting them.
Print off Canada pages and start mounting them.
Finish arranging all USSR into Varios.
Sort out Early Germany through Post-war Occupations.
Sell part of my British Royalty collection.
Start a "fun" collection.
Mostly my goals involve moving a couple of my specialized collections from "fixed" album pages to stock books. As much as I keep adding random new items, I need more flexibility in terms of moving stamps around and adding/keeping "like with like."
I'd like to go to a few stamp shows this year... last time I was at a stamp show was 2013.
~Peter
2016 goals:
US:
1) Plate number booklet panes of Type I and Type II 2nd Bureau
2) Kansas City Roulettes
3) PR1
OFEC: (One from every country)
1) Add at least one more stamp
TOPICAL:
1) Add at least one more stamp
2026 goal: Next meeting in US. I wish I could make it this year!

Being a newbie, I guess I'd like to attend a stamp show. Never been to one, but there will be three in this area (within 50 miles) over the course of the next year. One is Jan 16 but I have prior plans that I can't back out of.
Next, I think I'd like to complete two of the four years I am focusing on, however, I'd be happy with one.
MikeyToo,
I'm sure others have suggestions, but having only been to one show (a small local one), I advise having a SHORT list of what you are looking for and at a small show visit each dealer to see who has what you need. I made the rounds, making notes along the way, and parked at a table for a bit to look over my notes and decide where I wanted to start. Don't be afraid to take a catalog with you, and if you are buying anything that is often faked or has a similar looking stamp for less, be sure to educate yourself. Not all dealers are honest.
Having said all that my major purchase ended up being a Zeppelin. I already had the set, but I saw a $1.30 at a good price that was a much better match for my other two and I ended up selling the one from my collection on eBay for almost what I paid for the one at the show.
You never know!
Lars
"
if you are buying anything that is often faked or has a similar looking stamp for less, be sure to educate yourself. Not all dealers are honest."
2016 goals:
1. complete my collection of mint US airmail stamps as the used ones I have are a mess (of course the 3 zeps won't fit into the budget)
2. continue replacing used US stamps with mint stamps
3. continue collecting Machins on covers - FDCs when possible
4. continue cleaning out albums and getting stamps into stock sheets - so much easier to maintain and enjoy
That's about it - and that will keep me busy for the year.
Buy some new album leaves to mount my 100s of sorted stamps to make space in my "to mount" stockbook for the 100s of sorted stamps in junk mail envelopes to release the envelopes to sort the 1000s of unsorted stamps in the "big box" !!
To exchange some of my 100s of duplicates.
NOT to buy any more stamps until at least 50% of the above has been completed.
To be especially nice to my wife so that I am allowed the time to do all the above!!
Malcolm
Great topic. I gave this some thought this week and came up with the following:
- reconnect with my favourite dealer at our annual show in February and hopefully add to my Sweden collection.
- Visit the open air stamp fairs in Paris and Madrid in the spring (and any others I can find!)
- buy a nice magnifying glass with a big lens and an LED light. That micro printing is getting harder and harder to see!
- Buy a collection / bulk lot of pre-1965 WW material from a new dealer with whom I've recently connected, in the hope of making repeat purchases in the years to come.
- re-arrange my stamp table so it's more comfortable when a stockbook, catalogue, album and my log book are all open at the same time.
- keep working through the process of getting my collection organized, catalogued and displayed consistently.
- not worry so much about how weak the Canadian dollar is when everything I see is quoted in US dollars or Euros.
Mark
Mark,
I use a standard magnifying glass for routine things and pull out the 10x and 20x pair of loupes as my workhorses, but when I need to really zoom in (like for micro-printing), I use a 30x / 60x multiplier with an LED light like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/181486157848
Works like a charm!
Lars
Mount my USA. Continue with making pages for my triangle stamps and get this album started. Look into maybe putting some stamps for sale in approvals here.
I would like to start expanding my homemade album again to more recent issues. I haven't mounted any new US since about 2005 (and yes, I still have managed to pretty much keep up, although I'm beginning to get frustrated by how much it costs, and is one reason I sell to try to pay my way.
It also looks like I'm going to get a pretty hefty consignment, trying to help the daughter of a local club member who passed. This remains to be seen, but if I do, this will I'm sure consume all of my spare time in 2016.
-Doug
Print up album pages for my Panama Stamps from 1971-present.
Mount alot of stamps.
Hi Lars! Thanks for the testimonial about the magnifiers. Will definitely give them a look.
17 days into the new year and my goal has already been deleted.
A second unexpected and unplanned trip back to the UK has meant my dream of visiting the USA for the first time for the Big event in May/June has gone.
Now I'll think up an achievable goal for the end of the year.......maybe the Labels for the London Philatelic Exhibition of 1890 !
What goals have you set for your 2016 collecting year?
Me, I plan to complete the Pitcairn Islands. I also want to work on the last, long neglected area of my collection, which is the Spanish and Portuguese Colonies. Completing Rio Muni was part of that.
Regarding the collection in general, I plan to expand my storage area so that the additional binders and album pages I need have a safe place.
