Good job everyone!
I remember what it was like when Jerry passed away and a few of us had to figure out what to do with the club.
The fact that some of you are still involved managing things all these years later is a great tribute to your, oh, I don't even know what to call it. Servitude? That's not right but I hope you know what I mean. It's much, much more than I was ever able to muster, both in terms of time and quality.
I'm very grateful for all you've done and continue to do to organize things and keep SOR friendly, helpful and even somewhat stamp related!
Bylaws give me the heebie jeebies so forgive me if I don't study them in detail. BUT! My #1 hope is that the changes you've made make the club easier for you all to manage.
As a member / user of things, I'm very glad that SOR still exists. But it's got to be something that you as volunteers can deal with.
Thanks for all you do,
Mark
Jerry was a great man with a great vision. I wish I still had all the early copies of original Rambler. I wrote an article in one on Nova Scotia issues when I had no idea what I was talking about, but with his encouragement, I continued.
It is, as Mark said, when we lost Jerry and still just getting on our feet, it amazes me that here we are today and what we have accomplished. I hope that we have remained faithful to his original vision of Stamporama and he's smiling down on us with pride.
Over the last 18 months or so, the VC has been debating a new set of bylaws. I believe our last set was adopted a decade or so ago, and these new bylaws attempt to fill holes we identified and give us flexibility in entertaining other approaches to how we do business. They both give us responsibilities and limitations, and set forth the relationship among the various parts of SOR, most notably that between VC and members. There's lots of process in there, too, so it's clear HOW we do things, as well as what's to be done.
The VC adopted these unanimously; however, much of the hardest work was done by Arno and Bobby, who produced an initial document that was then refined. Arno shepherded the process through, from start to finish, and, speaking for myself, we owe him a great debt not only for the quality of the final product but for the way he allowed people their voice and gave us gentle guidance.
I can say that the bylaws represent the vision of the VC, and we are solidly behind it. There may be additional sections added, as we look at other ways we might do business.
We are also working on a code of ethics at the moment, to replace the existing CoE.
For those who wish to read the bylaws they can be found here: http://stamporama.com/forms/display_form.php?id=bylaws. In fact, if you look at the left hand nav bar on the home page, you can find an immense amount of information on what's available and what rules govern what areas.
David, who again tips his hat to Arno and Bobby for writing initial drafts, Arno for shepherding these through, and the entire VC for giving these words the attention they require and time we might otherwise be spending with our stamps, our dogs, our trains, and our families.
