I have just found out today that one of our long time members passed away December 28, 2015. Many of you will remember cpconway Charles P. "Chuck" Conway Florissant, Missouri. I have sold stamps to him since 2003. He encouraged me to return to stamping after my bypass and again after my cancer. I for one will really miss him.

Sad news indeed. He was one of my best buyers, always paid promptly, and bid on some of my esoteric 'junque'.

I thought his absence from SOR was because of the flooding in the area.

How sad. I think there are a couple more long time members who have passed away although I haven't received confirmation from anyone. Emails & messages go unanswered and they haven't been on Stamporama in months. They were always regular, quick paying customers of mine and I've held their outstanding lots since last Spring hoping that they will reappear, but I have this feeling that it won't happen.

Charles will be missed. He was so polite, the few times we e-mailed and I will miss him. When he started buying from me, I phoned my sister Lee to let her know, and she said that she had tried to figure a way to have him as a buyer as well. The two of us laughed about it at the time.
Over the years Charles was a great buyer, and sometimes was bidding on my lots as quick as I posted them. He paid quickly, and always thanked me for the great selection and service. When he stopped bidding, he always sent me an e-mail to let me know and always said he would be back. I hope he had a family.

re: Closed Album: Charles Conway (cpconway)

Conway, Charles P. Chuck Sustained with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church and died in her arms on Monday, December 28, 2015. Beloved husband of Mary E. Betty (nee Quinn) Conway; loving father of Patricia (Anthony) Karre, Charles R. (Ann Dunsford) Conway, and John P. Conway. Proud grandfather of Elizabeth and AnnaGrace Conway and Nikita and Katya Karre; devoted brother to Jim Conway, Betty Kempland (dec.), George Conway (dec.), Virginia Mueller, Rita Kaczmarski, and Mary Thurman. Preceded in death by parents Amelia (nee Buchholz) and Charles F. Conway. Charlie attended De Andreis and Laboure High Schools, graduating Salutatorian, with a love for mathematics and playing football. He volunteered to serve in the Special Forces, the Green Berets, and subsequently the 82nd Airborne where he completed over 20 parachute jumps. Returning from the service, he resumed college and earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering from St. Louis University and Washington University, respectively. He continued to serve his country through 40 years of dedicated work and perfect attendance at McDonnell Douglas. At McDonnell Douglas he was a systems analyst and a lead engineer on the highly successful Harpoon Cruise Missile project (thousands of Harpoons remain actively deployed throughout the world) and several other critical projects. Charlie was a dedicated husband, father, grandpa, and faithful Catholic. His children recall that he never missed a single game, dance/piano recital, Boy Scout/Girl Scout or school eventnot one. He loved to fish and taught all of his children to love it as well. We feel blessed to have had such a wonderful father he will be forever missed. Services: Visitation Sunday, Jan. 3, from 3-6 pm at Stygar Florissant Chapel, 13980 New Halls Ferry Road, Florissant, MO 63033. Sorry to hear this news. I was wondering what may had happened since he always jumped on my clearance approval books and took most of the remainders from me. He last made a purchase from me on December 20 - so he may have never even seen that last large package of stamps that he purchased. Very sad.

re: Closed Album: Charles Conway (cpconway)

Hi all,

As promised I have sent The Conway Family a Sympathy card with the following letter:

Our deepest sympathy for a passing of a truly wonderful person.

Charlie was very much loved in our stamp community, Stamporama. All of us have a sadden heart and considered him family. He was a great aficionado of stamps and will be dearly missed.

Charlie encouraged Richard Willis to return to stamping after his bypass and again after his cancer. Several of us appreciated his shopping in our Approval Books and prompt payments. As of last week he has purchased 71,128 lots. He always paid on time and he LOVED the approvals.

Charlie was a very polite, nice, considerate person.

We are all saddened by the passing of another hobbyist.

Another album closes.

He will be missed.

From all of Charlies' friends and fellow philatelists at Stamporama. If you need help with anything, please let us know.

I've included my name and address just incase they do need help. As you can see I've taken all that you have said and sort of condensed since we were all saying the same things.

RIP our Friend!

Just now found this thread. In early December after buying every lot I had on the board he e-mailed thanking me for all the "quality lots" he had bought from me and that he was taking a break from buying for 6 months or so to work on his collection. (I had often wondered how he had time to work on all he bought). I thanked him for his comment and wished him a good time working on his stamps. After reading his obituary here (thanks for that post) I can see what an active and full life he led with all the right priorities. RIP CP.

re: Closed Album: Charles Conway (cpconway)

Sorry to hear this news. I was wondering what may had happened since he always jumped on my clearance approval books and took most of the remainders from me. He last made a purchase from me on December 20 - so he may have never even seen that last large package of stamps that he purchased. Very sad.

It is sad, but at least here..someone usually finds out the situation and informs the members.

I had sold cpconway thousands of lots and we would still bid against each other.

re: Closed Album: Charles Conway (cpconway)

RIP our Friend!

re: Closed Album: Charles Conway (cpconway)

Just now found this thread. In early December after buying every lot I had on the board he e-mailed thanking me for all the "quality lots" he had bought from me and that he was taking a break from buying for 6 months or so to work on his collection. (I had often wondered how he had time to work on all he bought). I thanked him for his comment and wished him a good time working on his stamps. After reading his obituary here (thanks for that post) I can see what an active and full life he led with all the right priorities. RIP CP.
