At last i have a definition of myself...more than a hoarder, more than a collector...i am a Sorter ! i will take a shoebox of a thousand stamps at random and sort through it..if all goes well i will find one or two that go into my albums and a couple to list in the auction..so you see the accumulation never really gets smaller...whats 6 stamps out of a thousand ?

Watch out, Phil, you'll wind up getting boxes and boxes of stamps to sort for everyone here!

re: The Mad Sorter

We can break the whole process into emotional components:

- the treasure hunt / rescuing ... from pawing thru the pile

- creating order in the universe / defeating chaos ... from sorting into little piles

- creating permanence / cheating death ... from albumization etc

Stamps may be little, but stamp collecting is HUGE.

Cheers,

This entire thread has me homesick for my stamp room. Sad

I do believe I will spend a few hours searching the 'net for job lots and a buy button!

Nice to hear there's a name for this condition... I never was much good at the whole meticulous "buy one stamp to fit one empty space" approach! Happy
