re: Stamp Identification

I'm assuming you are refering to Colnect.

The usefulness of the site depends on what you are trying to identify and what information you need.

I'm a worldwide collector focusing primarily on pre-1955 stamps. Personally, I don't use that site as it doesn't meet my needs and I hate being pestered to sign up. But everybody has their needs and preferences.

By the time one gets to the intermediate level, it's difficult to continue without access to the more complete/comprehensive listings of a formal catalog.

I can certainly see how the site might be useful for identifying basic face-different modern issues of the major countries.

Just my opinion.

re: Stamp Identification

As an all world collector I use colnect all the time - but more as an aide-memoire than a serious catalogue. If you are looking for a starting point for research there is nothing better -but serious information -nah!

The basic Colnect info. plus Google then forums/discussion groups, specialist websites, equals (at least !) a simplified catalogue every time. Judicious use of auction sites both, real and virtual, often provides information even if you are not buying.

All the information you want ( plus much of that which you don't want !!) is out there. You just need to refine your methods.
