Image Not FoundHowdy Everyone!

I've decided to take a break from my US stamps and start rummaging through the world wide box i picked up at an antique shop (for pretty darn cheap i might add!). Luckily most of the 14 different countries it contained were sorted and separated but its hard to decide where to start lol. I managed to get my hands on an old 2006 copy of the Stanley Gibbons so i figured Great Britain would be a good place to delve into. Most of the stamps are in fairly sad shape but i figure they're a great starting point for practicing identification and i gotta say its fun and mentally exhausting all at the same time.

going through the King Edward VII's i found a half penny with some writing that looks like got transferred from the paper it was affixed to, although why they would cover it up w a stamp seems kinda weird to me. Can anybody tell what it says, whether it's printed or by hand? Any one else seen similar examples?

im going through the backs of all the stamps now hoping to find the rest of the message! but thats unlikly to happen, oh well.

Gracias!

re: Writing transferred to back of Stamp assistance.

Robert,

By the look of this, it's a reverse impression of the writing on an envelope. The stamp may have been applied over part of a message or address, or 'mailing instruction' written by the sender. There is nothing more significant about.

As this is a ½ penny definitive, it was probably applied to a postcard. The town name is probably Stockport, a suburb of Greater Manchester.

Thanks Ningpo! appreciate the info, especially about the postmark! ive kinda been ignoring them unless they have a specific date that can help me further identify the stamp. im sure ill have more questions soon (hopefully not enough to annoy anyone lol) as i sort through all of these and any/all comments are always appriciated!

The reversed writing says "stamp" - maybe a direction to a secretary or similar to affix a ½d. stamp to the envelope or card.
