Just got my copy in the mail today and currently reading the FDR article. Very nice!
I got my copy in the mail and thought it interesting.
The inaugural Sept-Oct issue mentions, at least twice & at length, that they are eagerly & happily following in the footsteps of Herst's Outbursts.
Nicely put together, high production values, one helluva rag.
However, if memory serves, every Outbursts came with some sort of near-giveaway that could be had for an SASE, or an SASE and a buck, or even an SASE and two bucks.
The ones I remember were USPOD training stamps (perhaps a coil strip of 3?) and a template/mask (cut from an index card) that would guide you in placing your postage so as to generate an SOTN (Socked On The Nose) stamp.
Such fond memories!
I am only sorry that Kelleher did not revive this part of the tradition.
Q/ Do enough of us remember enough of the Outbursts 'specials' to start a thread?
Cheers,
/s/ ikeyPikey
I too immensely enjoyed the FDR article. As a Bermuda collector, I also found Arthur Groton's article on the earliest know Bermuda cover quite fascinating.
I received a copy packaged with my monthly Linn's edition.

Now if I had the time and money I'd make a similar template to send to every single collector, dealer, trader and correspondent in the club. I amazes me that so many of our supposedly knowledgeable members will send mail to other members, by definition that means to other collectors, with the postage stamp or stamps jammed up in the top right hand corner so tightly that some have whatever perfs on the right side hang over the edge and are frequently damaged.
There is no reason why the stamp cannot be moved a short distance or so to the left.
It seems that on modern US mail, cancellations machines set the Circular Date Cancellation when included at just beyond 2½" mark from the right edge. If someone doesn't want to create CDCs for recipients, at least lower the stamp from the top just short of one inch and the stamp will be cancelled by a single killer line across the top. All you need to do is look at some incoming mail to see how far is reasonable.
Everyone knows that Franklin Roosevelt was a stamp collector...but until i saw this article i never realized how much of a stamp collector he was. He really loved stamps and would have some with him where ever he went.
The FDR article was wonderful! Smart move on the part of Kellerher to create this publication!
"If it has something to do with stamps thats about all i read anymore !"
Excellent book on FDR's stamp collecting if you want to read more. I would highly recommend it.

I was in the process of starting a new thread on this very subject, when I discovered this existing one, during a Google search.
I have been on the Kelleher mailing list for a couple of years, now, and just received my first issue today. (Well, the first issue that I am aware of. I may have tossed previous ones away, thinking they were auction catalogs for material far beyond my reach.)
I'll just reiterate what has been mentioned above: It's 50 pages of articles, a bit larger than standard magazine size, with high production values -- slick stock, a profusion of color photos, etc -- and only a few house ads interspersed throughout. Here is the table of contents for this issue (available for reading online, also, from the Kelleher home page).
Can someone confirm if this is the old Nutmeg Stamps of Danbury CT? Their mail bid catalog was the best. Miss getting it
-Ernie
Nutmeg was merged with Harmer.
Kelleher took over Danbury and Michael Rogers.
I received one issue, but never got another one...
I would like to read that , is that on pdf somewhere? or do I need to subscribe?
@Croman: It's on the home page of their website.

You are a scholar and a gentleman sir..thank you
Chris W.: I have that book (and the other one) by Linn's about FDR... an excellent read.
Phil B.: I still recall looking in awe of FDR's stamp "suitcase" with his watermark tray, tongs, and magnifier, on display at the Roosevelt home, near you.... Wow!

Yes, I would love to visit Hyde Park one day.
Did anyone else receive and have a chance to peruse the new Kellerher's Stamp Collector's Quarterly?
Everyone knows that FDR was a serious collector and I had read somewhere that Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones used stamps as a relaxing hobby and a way to "stay clean" but I had never heard that Bela Lugosi and Yul Bryner was also stamp collectors. There are pictures included showing both of them working with their albums.
I LOVED Yul Bryner in West World. That scared the crap out of me as a kid.
I knew Yul Brynner was, but not Legosi.
And they BOTH scared the crap out of me as a child.....
...and I loved every minute of it!
Lugosi's Dracula - pure evil.
Brynner's android menace would have given Arnold's terminator a run for his money!
They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
(Sorry - hijacked! )
... Ernest Borgnine was also a stamper .
I received an interesting philatelic magazine in the mail a couple of days ago,its Kellerher's Collectors Connection from Kelleher's auctions. It has a variety of interesting articles including a 10 page article on F.D.R.s stamp collection. Don't want to get too lengthy..the editor is Randy Neil and they are looking for writers interested in writing for them. There are electronic editions available if you want to take a peek. Of you want to get on their hardcopy list i am sure it will not be difficult. Has anyone else received a copy ?
