Macedonia has many Red Cross issues listed in the RA's. Many show the Red Cross emblem on a stamp issue that pertains to topics on cancer, tuberculosis, drug use and solidarity week. Are all these issues considered to be Red Cross issues?

re: Red Cross Issues

These are probably a continuation of the Yugoslavia charity stamps which were issued for many years - possibly the other post-Yugoslavia republics issue them too (?).I don't have too many very modern stamps so I can't comment further.

As always you collect what YOU want, but I suppose to a "purist" (whatever that might be) only those issued to support the Red Cross, whether bearing the symbol or not qualify.

However they are all loosely health and welfare issues so provided you are not going to exhibit them as Red Cross stamps, why not collect them on that basis?

re: Red Cross Issues

You're right, Malcolm. The former Yugoslav countries are issuing many postal tax stamps (RA prefix in the Scott catalogs).

The Scott catalog usually states what the stamp/set was issued for. Looking at Macedonia, you will find the following as an example for some of the postal tax stamps showing a red cross:

RA2-9 = Anti-Cancer Week

RA10-13 = Red Cross Week

RA14-18 = Solidarity Week

If you are going strictly for stamps issued for a Red Cross organization purpose, the notes about why the stamp was issued should help you decide which ones would fit in your topical collection. Other than that, you'd have to find research material or someone who specializes in these to help you determine if any of the non-Red Cross specific issues had any funds collected go to the Red Cross.

This is a nice looking set for this topic. It is in an auction that closes tonight. It's not mine nor do I plan on bidding, but if anyone is interested in where, send me a PM.

re: Red Cross Issues

Macedonia made it too, as other countries around, Red Cross, Charity, Fighting Cancer, Tuberculosis....
From first day of independence they start with "Relief" stamps.... all are easy to obtain, except first issue, and
imperforated samples, which are made in low quantity, but legal to use.
Problem is now, that Macedonian Post have one dealer as representative .....

One issue I prefer more than a ll others, it is similar as USA issue, for Fighting Breast Cancer!
