I have not--I am on their list, but they seem to take a long time to get a mail sale together. They appear to be concentrating on their higher end stuff. BOB
i have spoken with Michael Rogers at the Hartford show...he seems like a very decent man !
Peter --
I know personally of 2 major Japan collections that were sold in the last year or two through Kelleher. (Actually, the HK location was Dynasty Auctions at that time, and is now called Kelleher and Rogers (for Michael Rogers).)
Those collections were formed by experts in their field, and they determined that Kelleher/Dynasty was the right house to go with. (One collection realized about $1.5 million, and the other about $900 thousand, if I'm recalling correctly.) I would think that since you have China and Hong Kong material, it may be even a better fit.
And I think you would be able to send the material to their offices in the US (CT or MA, not sure which).
Thanks Dave. I might look into this for the HK and Treaty Port stamp and cancel collections. Not sure if the broader British Empire issues will fit their niche but it won't hurt to ask.
Cheers,
Peter
It won't hurt to ask!
And, depending on the size of the collection (I won't ask you about that here), you may be able to negotiate a more attractive seller's commission.
Also, Peter, just thinking out loud here, you may want to check with this firm:
http://www.colonialstampcompany.com/
British Empire specialists.
They've been around for quite a while, and seem to go to all the top shows (including Monaco next month). I haven't had any dealings with them, nor do I see them at the local shows, since they are based here.
I honestly don't know anything about their/his reputation, good or bad, other than they/he seem to have longevity on their side.
Thanks Dave; they look a bit "high end" for my collection.
From their consignment page:
"Your shipment should contain a minimum of $5000 potential realized value (For material totaling less than $5000, we will be happy to review it for outright purchase). Each mint or used item should catalog at least $250, unless you are forwarding a collection in its entirety. All 20th-Century material in that price range is acceptable. Nineteenth Century material should be in very fine condition. "
You're not thinking of selling your HK collection, are you Peter?
Peter, is that Kelleher or Colonial?
Ningpo: Eventually I will sell all my stamps; there is no-one to leave them to that would value them in any way. The time isn't now but it's unlikely I'll add to my collections any more. (and yes, I've heard THAT before, eh?)
Dave: That's from Colonial.
I am back, when i was in Hartford i brought along a couple complete year issues from Hong Kong, when Mr.Rogers had a spare moment i asked him to look at them. He told me that he could not use them but sent me to an Oriental dealer a few tables away who promptly purchased them. I know Rogers is an expert in his field and a regular guy to talk to .
I visited Michael Rogers in his shop several times and enjoyed getting to know him--I miss him not being in Winter Park anymore. He gave me a Yang catalog for my HK collection. I also bought a cross reference Yang-Scott catalog.

I have not dealt with Kelleher but a number of years ago, I sold some material to Michael Rogers and was very satisfied with their service. A few years later, I was in Winter Park and stopped in the store. I felt I was treated rudely and did not stay long. After returning home, I mentioned it to one of the members of our Board of Directors and he was very surprised as he had been there and was very happy and continued to deal with them. While I did not ask him to do anything, he must have as shortly thereafter, I received a very nice letter of apology from Michael Rogers. Unfortunately, I never had another occasion to deal with his firm. I found a firm in Pinellas Park that was more what I was looking for and still deal with him even though he has since relocated to Arizona.

I read in previous posts that Michael Rogers merged with Kelleher Collectors and I received their Sep/Oct newsletter yesterday by email. I was curious if anyone had sold with them by consignment or as a sale to them?
Peter
p.s. if anyone would like the PDF copy of the newsletter, PM me and give me your email address. It arrived unsolicited and free, so I'm sure they won't mind at all if I shared it.
