Yeah I have a Schaubek Sweden album, although its pretty old. Also have a few Davo hingeless albums. The top loading mounts are fantastic IMO. Much time saved not having to deal with hinges and not much risk of damaging stamps as with split back. Nice wide thick pages are great too. I haven't seen any problem with mounts not laying flat, but I am careful not to bend them outward. Although to be honest the Schaubek album gets very little handling as I am not working on Sweden at the moment, so hopefully others will concur.
I do use split back mounts and occasionally have to add them to pages in these pre-printed albums as they don't cover all listed varieties, even the common varieties sometimes. That's the most annoying thing about the pre-printed albums; sight unseen you never know exactly what the coverage is going to be. I need to add several pages to my Davo Switzerland albums so I just ordered blank pages. I'll use clear split-back mounts because I have them in stock.
My wife has one or two..they are pretty much the top of the line..she got hers by bidding on collections and got the books thrown in !
Thanks for replies. I have been looking at photos on Ebay for some Schaubek hingeless pages and it looks like there really is no issue with them standing out from the page when filled, as I feared. Looks like they allow a smidgen of room in the mount. That is what I do when using the split backs, I use one size larger than called for. Of course that works best when using clear mounts.
I bought a Schaubek Berlin hingeless album with the idea I'd use my experience with it having splitback mounts as a trial balloon. I wanted to see if I'd be able to get used to them as I've always despised them but don't want to take the time to cut a few thousand mounts to finish my collection of Modern postwar German material.
I've placed stamps in about a dozen ages and am very frustrated. None of them lie flat and I have had to resort to slightly moistening the bottom half to overcome that. Also it is a chore to get them centered in the mount, open top mounts are a snap to use.
I am keeping the album and will finish placing my material in it. I have concluded that cutting and attaching my own mounts to the spaces and inserting my stamps will be less time consuming than working with these things. Glad I didn't buy a bunch of these albums. Will finish out my set by buying 'regular' albums and cutting my own mounts. Just my preference..
I don't have the time or patience to describe how to load split back mounts, but its not that hard. Here's as short and quick as I can get it. Maybe you're already doing this,b ut anyway, here goes.
This assumes the mount is already affixed to the page via the gum on the top back portion only.
You take the stamp in tongs, design facing you, then flip vertically so bottom is now facing up and you see the back. Now, bend the mount back and insert the bottom of the stamp in the bottom of the mount (the back of stamp is still visible) and very carefully tuck the stamp top up under the top part of the mount as you place the mount back flat on the page.

Split Back Mounts
Kenmore stamps has other videos on various mounting procedures.
What you describe is what I am doing. I am still undecided whether to continue in this direction- I hope I can as I don't want to have to cut a few thousand mounts. I mounted several pages this evening, about 90% of them are standing out from the page, noticeably.
I cannot figure what I am doing wrong here. It's too late for me to look at the video link but will tomorrow. Maybe I need to let them sit awhile and eventually they flatten out. I am finding the presentation ugly; will update shortly.
Update I did watch the video, again it shows exactly what I am doing. I had to note- the stamp shown as a demonstration in the video was sticking out from the page when the video was finished. I think perhaps this is a case of my standards and expectations being more stringent than others- apparently most collectors do not mind their stamps not lying flat on the album page. Me- it drives crazy.
Believe a couple of things may be making your pages not lay flat. First, if your stamp is even slightly larger than your mount the mount will curl and in the process damage the perforations. Secondly, if you are using a 3 ring binder, you may have to many pages for the size of the binder which will make the pages stand out. I have been using split back mounts for years for all my main collections and do not have the problem you have.
As others would say, just my two cents worth. Good luck in finding a solution.

I think maybe I have found a solution. I may have mentioned previously that it helps to gently push the stamp down into the bottom seam when inserting it. I have by accident learned that- if I take time to use the end of the tongs to push to top of the stamp a bit more up into the top half of the mount it usually winds up laying flat on the page. I did several pages tonight and almost all stamps are flat against the page.
Resurrecting this thread. I am wondering if anyone using these albums has ever tried to deal with the firm on customer service issues? They seem very lacking.
I bought a set of pages for Danzig as part of a $500+ order a few months back. Recently when finally getting round to working with them I found this set was missing four pages that should have been there. I have sent two emails to Schaubek with no reply. Their website has no apparent place to click to send them a message, had to go online and search for an email address. They also simply will not send me another print catalog, the one I got originally is falling apart but all they keep doing is sending me links to the online version.
I suspect from the limited amount of interaction I have had with them that there may be issues with their staff in dealing with and responding to English speaking clients. The company is headquartered in what used to be the old DDR and they just are not up to the level that Lighthouse, Lindner and other dealers give. Just some observations.
They do have a "contact" link on their web site that leads to a form with which you can submit your question.
I asked them a question once about their products and they responded eventually. I think I asked in German.
I would recommend asking your question in German and informing them you would prefer English.
I did finally hear from them- they are mailing replacement pages. Half the reply was in German so as I suspected I think there may be a language issue with them.
One unrelated comment- I bought some two post albums from them to use with these pages and have become frustrated with the pages not lying flat, especially toward the back of the binders. I went online and bought some ring binders from Amos to use with them. Will try to recover some of what I spent by selling off the post binders. Sometimes this is how you figure out what works for you.
Anyone have one of these? If so do you like it? I do not care for split back type mounts which they use and I am wondering if you own one, do the mounts stay flat or have you had issues with them sticking out from the page- that always happens to me but then I install them myself so maybe these don't. Just wondering..
