I have a small collection of UN stamps
I have been on the hunt for a reasonably up-to-date UN album for a while now, to house my growing UN collection.
As with anything else, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not always in the catalog value.
Randy
I have two Scott albums of UN,a Minuteman used and a Specialty MNH, I also have a copy of Terins UN Specialized catalog 1st edition, I have always had a spot for UN issues, the red headed step child of stamps, count me in.
That makes 4 0f us.
If we can get a couple more members who are enthusiastic we may have something.
I have sought postally used UN issues for years with a modicum of success, however I often settle for what are obviously favor cancels or soaked FDCs.
The national flag issue is interesting and I have most of them.
I have a UN collection... very interested in their issues, especially pre-1980. I would support a study group.
Say what you will about UN stamps, but one thing is for sure... their issues truly reflect subject matter that is closely associated with their institutions, aims, and aspirations... they do not reflect popular culture or attempt to cash in on the collector's wallet with basic topical issues such as butterflies, cats, etc... and when they do issue similar items it is with a specific goal in mind. You may not always agree with the message being conveyed but there is always a message to be found which reflects their inner core beliefs... not many countries today can say that.
I'm in on U.N. also. My album goes through 1980.
My UN collection is: Geneva 1969 through 2005; New York 1951 through 2006 and Vienna 1979 through 2006. Some issues may not be represented and almost all are mint very fine. So I'm going to guess the collection is about 99% complete for those years.
Some of you mentioned the albums you use;
what about the rest of you? Do you use pre-printed pages? Or?
Randy
I also have a couple of mini collections: one unused hinged, one MNH - both complete through 1975. I remember when I was in my early years dreaming of one day owning the elusive SS (#38?), and later how I felt when I finally obtained one.
I use Scott Specialty for main mint and used collections up to 2000 for mint and 1980 for used. Harris, Minkus, and White Ace for smaller mint collections just for different presentation and Erie ups... Also mint hinged collection on Steiner pages... Souvenir cards in 3 ring binders and FDCs in 3 ring binders and boxes. I have a old spring back album of special overs which I ought intact and left intact.
Opps... Meant write ups!
Great, we are up to 10 members who are actively collecting UN. We can do this. I'll start with an offer. I have a huge amount of duplicates. If any of you are looking for stamps to complete a set or a year let me know and we can do some horse trading.
Jozep,
I am sure I am missing many sets from many years, but until I acquire an album to put them in, I won't be sure what I need.
I don't want to do the stockbook thing right now; I'd rather wait until an album comes along. (....okay, so I happen to LIKE preprinted pages )
But I'll certainly keep a mental note of your offer for future reference!
Randy
Unless you are looking for a hingeless album, you can find album page creators for just about every country. They work quite well and make for an economical alternative.
Then again, it has been pointed out to me - I think with merit - that printing your own pages may not necessarily be that cost effective either, considering the price of paper and more importantly ink.
It ultimately will take some calculation to figure the best way to go.
Thank you for everyone's input!
Randy
Where are all of you physically located? I am in south Florida near Tampa.
Randy
I have a Davo Hingeless UN Album I bought years ago, look at davousa.com they're
listed there
Thanks Bill - I'll look into it!
Jozep,
I'm in the heart of the Great Lakes State - Michigan.
We just had the big APS show recently in nearby Grand Rapids and I had a nice chat with the people that manned the U.N. booth at the show.
....and THEY weren't sure where to find an album, either! LOL
Randy
Heart of Dixie here... Alabama.
Although I am travelling right now and probably for a few months more, visiting children and grand children in Texas and Nevada, my home is Lecanto, Florida, about 80 miles from downtown Tampa, to the north near Chrystal River, where the manatees swim with people.
I am a UN collector and there is a club of UN collectors out there - I used to belong but it got too academic for me so I dropped out.
Thought I'd liven up this thread with my latest find;
I just purchased a new Minuteman Album with pages for 1951-1999 U.N. stamps -
it was on closeout from Amos Advantage for only $9.99!
The next-newest group of pages for it are 45 bucks or so, but after saving so much on the initial album, I have no problem with that!
I am a happy camper!
Randy
I gave up on UN albums years ago - I have put all stamps, mini-sheets and SS into Vario (or related) stock sheets - much neater and quite attractive. Covers are in other albums.
I actually have a complete collection, less the latest issues as NY hasn't sent them yet (they take forever to send standing orders).
Picked up a 15 volume Lindner set at a reasonable price, 1951 - 2010. Will be expanding with a few more also. Working on the first few years with control/plate numbers and cutouts in the margins. I use Michel specialized UN, 2010 English version plus a 2016. I also collect UNTEA, East Timor and Kosovo. Still organizing them and quite a ways to go. I'm in Pennsylvania. Glad to be part of the group
I have a UN NY collection to around 1978, same with UN Geneva plus FDCs. Also have the Swiss UN fore-runners, 7O1-7O20 MNH and used and mint, used and FDCs for the rest of them.
I would be interested in a UN group. I'm from Pueblo, Colorado.
I, also, have a UN collection until 1978 or so but New York only. Actually I have two, one in the International I-V album until 1963 and a second standalone one which is, also, complete for later issues.
I don't go out of my way to collect UN but I do have a Mystic UN album that I think goes up to the early 2000s...I need to doublecheck on that. I have quite a bit of mint stamps in it. I'll take a look at it when I'm home.
I easily completed both NY and Geneva thru 1974 over 30 years ago and have not had interest in them since. That said they do have some beautiful and historically relevant stamps.
Hello;
I am interested in UN philately, and especially the first issue (1-11, C1-C4), and looking for full panes of that issue, is there any one can help in resources of that issue (other than Gaines, and Kvarnes, Michell catalog of UN), and how Can i get that resources, and if there is good dealer with good prices for 67 printings of first issue.
Best Regards
I have Scott, White Ace, and Lighthouse albums
With all the 'bad press' UN stamps have gotten over the past several years, I'm curious as to how many other UN collectors there are on SOR. Maybe we can develop a UN-centric club within SOR if there are enough willing to do so. Let me know.
