And `don`t
forget the post par stamps issued in October 1987 A strike that lasted for 19 days and Canada Post tries to forget Thanks for all the info....
The initial post here, and those on the other two threads are wonderful, but it's just a pity the titles could not be different. Someone searching for Canada Strike Mail may never find this thread whether they be a member or not.
'Locals or other unusual stamps' is fine for a Cinderella thread (USA only-sorry) where the posts are short and mixed, but these excellent initial posts of nl1947 will be hard to find for future collectors and should have titles of their own. For example, the initial post here could go nicely under the heading 'Canada Strike Mail' and then can be added to by other if and when.
Just sayin'.

I think Londonbus had a great idea for moving and renaming this thread to "Canada Strike Mail" for a good reference topic, so I moved it to the Canada topic per his suggestion.
"will be hard to find for future collectors"
Relations between the Canadian government and postal unions were rocky during the Centennial period. In 1968, Canada's postal workers went on a 22 day postal strike from July 18 to August 9.
There was even a "wildcat" strike in 1965 before the Union was formed.
I remember these strikes well from my Montreal days, 6-8 strikes in a 10 year period. The head of the Union was even jailed for refusing back to work orders.
Some interesting non government sanctioned local posts sprang up during this time period mainly in Western Canada while the strikes were mainly an Eastern issue especially between Ontario & Quebec.
Stern Parcel Service
Stern Parcel Service operated between Vancouver and Bellington, Wahington & then on to international destinations.
Canada Postal Strike Label
Canada Postal Strike Label, private mail - not sure if there was actual usage during a postal strike
Juan de Fuca Depatch Carrier Service
The Juan de Fuca Despatch Carrier Service operated between Victoria and Port Angeles, Washington.
Labels without value were printed for the 1968 postal strike
A cover with a new Juan de Fuca stamp
Metro Emergency Mail Dispatch
British Colombia, Canada. 1973 mail strike issues
Maple Leaf Strike Service
Maple Leaf Strike Service, British Colombia, Canada. 1975 mail strike issues
Snowbird Express
Local deliveries during the 1975 strike operating from several Ontario cities.

J. R. MacLean Trucking & Despatch
Vancouver-based J. R. MacLean Trucking & Despatch operated a private mail delivery service. Letters and parcels were collected from the Vancouver, B.C. region and delivered into the U.S. mail system in Blaine, Washington. An elegant sheetlet of 8 stamps in 3 different denominations (50c, $1, and $3) was issued that featured Canadian military regimental costumes, labelled in very fine print.
Messagerie Autogeree
Not to be outdone, the Union got into the act and started up their own service in 1975. They issued stamps & FDCs with propaganda slogans.
Notice on the FDC that the stamp is now $1.25 - seems the Union never felt they were getting enough. It also reads "Boycott Postal Codes" - this may have been an issue that the codes would eliminate sorting jobs.
