I consider myself fortunate to be a "general collector" not bound by many self imposed rules..when i see something of interest to me and the price seems fair i will go for it.I thought this one was a bit unusual !Image Not Found

I have this similar cover that I have posted here before. Also last day of service, this one for a town that got buried under Lake Mead when the dam was placed.

I have an album marked "Cool Stuff" where I keep all these interesting covers. What fun would a hobby be if you had to pass up a cover you like, just because it didn't fit into a rigid collection?

No worries Phil! Every stamp collector should have an album titled "Cool Stuff".

Speaking of interesting covers with last day of use. Note the post mark for Apr 30, 1940 from Hueneme, Calif., for last day of use and the post mark for May 1, 1940 from Port Hueneme, Calif., for the first day of use.

The stamp was issued April 14, 1940. I guess the town changed names and the first and last day of use refers to the town name change.

That's an interesting pair of covers! Either would be just okay by themselves but the pair really tells a story.

Multiple news outlets last week reported that the foundations of buildings in St. Thomas are now visible as a result of drought in the West. They used to be under 80 ft of water. That's how low Mead is now. Photos are online.

It's been that way for a while. There are people who have posted walking tours of the town.

I've had this cover since I was a kid. Back then it was just an interesting cover and story. When I dug it out this year, I Googled St Thomas and got the full story. Nothing like the Internet!

This is a photo that was inside my cover when I got it, that's the post office and the last mail was taken out via rowboat:
