Welcome, Jessicaz. You said,

Welcome, Jessica. Enjoy your time here!
welcome Jessica
I always aim to get the used copy over the mint.
there are many stamps in the US issued in quantity but difficult to find used, either because they were shunned by the public, for instance, "you can beat alcohilism" (some message to send your mother in law, right?) or because the period of use was so short as to be..... well, not much longer than a fruit fly's life.
for every rule, there's an exception, and Bob and Bobby know every one of them
Wow, thanks for all of the information! Collecting based on which office it was cancelled at is something that never crossed my mind.
Welcome to SOR Jessica and yes, for every stamp issued there are a hundred different ways to collect them, so you can collect them anyway you want and mount them anyway you want. It's your collection, do what you want with it and makes you happy and above all, just have fun collecting.
Mike
Hi Jessica;
A friendly welcome to you and hope you enjoy your time spent in our club.
The way you collect is just fine. I'm a world-wide collector, and never expect to complete a single
country. But I just enjoy what I do collect and buy items that appeal to me. I like you, also do not
care what the value is and just collect for the fun of it.
Just chillin'....

Hello! I am very glad I have found this forum (via Google) I started collecting stamps as a child, I was introduced by our small towns post master (my now pen pal) here in Pennsylvania. I was fascinated with stamps and the history of the postal system in general. My mom would put me up on the counter and I would ask to see the new stamps, I would lean over the counter and pick the ones I liked. After starting my own small collection of new stamps, he gave me some more to add, mostly older stamps whereas mine were much newer. I still have little to no understanding of these stamps.
I don't have a particular interest within my collection. I just collect the ones that I like, I really enjoy collecting stamps that have been used. I'm not sure if this is a common thing but they always seem to be my favorite. I would assume this would completely devalue them but I have no interest in collecting for worth. I'm very excited to dig into this wealth of knowledge here and understand my hobby a bit better!
