Latin America/All : Cuba on eBay

I just hung up the phone (the phrase dates me) with eBay customer service. Since we, the USA, are opening an embassy in Havana, I was wondering if eBay was going to remove Cuba from the list of banned countries.

Apparently the eBay department responsible for such prohibitions is still reviewing the circumestances regarding Cuba and will announce their decision in the future. The customer service rep didn't know how long that might take...

A removal from the banned list will benefit stamp collectors.

The Cuban embargo was put in place by Congress. It will take a change in legislation to lift the embargo. Doesn't matter if we open an embassy, consulate or whatever.

True. I had forgotten that detail. It may be a significant hurdle, too.

No, but you can jump on board a cruise ship and go there in person soon. I wonder what the personal limit will be for cigars and philatelic material!

re: Cuba on eBay

Yeah, I saw that cruise ships will start to go there in 2016. That, however, does not (at least at this time) change any of the conditions based on the US embargo on Cuban goods. It also does not negate (again at this time) the visa requirements. Also, I'll bet that all tourists coming off of US ships will be closely watched and chaperoned by official Cuban government representatives.

Now this may all change. It depends on what the both governments do.

I hope all will change now about US embargo and Cuba and we can find this stamp missing for decades in our collection.

re: Cuba on eBay

If ebay wants to be ignorant..let them..if someone wants Nazi material,Cuba or Iran stamps..there is no shortage of dealers to provide them. Ebays values can be skewed at times. I remember in 1998 i wanted a human voice on ebay to talk to...it was not easy..they were hiding..but i found one.
