"Rule 3. ... Approval Books ... should be intended to STAY as a resource for members for a significant time period. If you want quick turn around and intend to retire your books quickly, please use the Auction platform."
I don't believe you are one of my buyers and I can't speak for the other sellers, but my approval books are currently inactive because I am so busy with my house remodeling. They will be reactivated in a month or two. The other sellers may have similar reasons such as a vacation or taking a break for some reason or other. Maybe they are reworking them, who knows?
Many sellers may hesitate to post information about the status of their approval books because I believe it is in violation of the rule against self promotion. Stamporama has discussed allowing sellers to place notices of this type, but I think the idea was delayed or vetoed. Members of the VC might be better able to explain what the plans are for the future.
If you are looking for more material from particular sellers, why not communicate with them to see what they may have available?
It is also possible that some sellers started removing their older material after people complained that there were too many older, emptied books in the inventory.
Some approval books that see no sales for a period of time are automatically closed by the system.
Communication is great - as long as you're not complaining.
Sellers with approvals would likely have lots of stamps that they'd like to sell. I have a problem keeping track of mine. Not that it's too messy but it's just overwhelming sometimes. I took a large box full of albums and stockbooks all crammed to the last page with literally 10,000's of stamps to the auction house just to clean up a bit.
But sellers always want to sell more stamps. I've rarely had a seller turn down a sale before. And generally there's a decent selection.
When someone puts up an approval book and I only need one or two stamps out of it, I usually don't order them because I don't want to pay that much postage for one or two stamps. So I wait and watch for them to put up more books. When they finally have enough material to make the postage worth it to me I'll order, usually picking from several books.
I've seen two or three sellers in the last couple weeks put up new books. I recognized their names from their previous books so I ordered a few stamps from the new books, then went to bulk up the order with stuff from old books only to find the old books are gone. I'm pretty sure these books didn't sell out completely; I think some didn't sell over 50% (but I can't tell because they're gone), yet they're probably less than two months old.
