Ah, we could be out doing other things..they do make me a bit of a "home body" but to each his own !!
Bobby, girls and beer....... Derailed many a collection!
i had money for the beer !!!
notice the past tense "had" money for the beer. It's rough making those decisions, more beer or more stamps, beer, stamps. Oh heck, just cut back on eating so much, that will save a bundle alone for even more beer and stamps.

I had a couple of opportunities to visit the Weill brothers in New Orleans. A great shop, and the brothers were two great guys!
I started saving stamps off envelopes at about 10 years old. It was when I grew out of playing with Barbies.
I never grew out of that.
i spend more time with my stamps and covers than i really want to say..i can go to confession but they don't understand.
Hahaha! Well there is that verse about focusing on good and lovely things. I would assume clergy would just tell you that you are obeying the Good Lord
The same can be said for me too. However, I have to say that we still enjoy the occasional
beer. I might add, both my wife and I collect, so, we have the best of both worlds.

Hi Everyone;
I actually did play with a Barbie, a Swedish/Norwegian Blonde. Barbara and I hung out together
for a couple years, and altho I was her Ken doll we did not drive a pink Caddy.

Didn't they make a Barbie Stamp? I need that. Yes need... First Day cover....
And now I have the Barbie girl song stuck in my head
Now that it is stuck in my head, I will put it in yours!
@BobbyBarnhart NO, please no, no more, I will obey your every command but no more barbie please
You are a wicked man Bobby.
When I was in my early teens, and completely enraptured by the "stamp collecting bug," my philatelic aspiration was simple: to own a Regent Stamp Album and obtain the mounted collection of 50,000 different worldwide offered by my dealer of choice, Raymond H. Weill of New Orleans. While I never did either one of these things (girls, college, beer, etc. took precedence), I still fondly remember that time and those long ago dreams of philatelic completion.
Even now I often peruse collections offered on eBay or elsewhere and have to frequently do a "reality check" ("do I really need this?" "can I fit this into my budget?" etc.). I believe stamp collectors as a whole are possessed of a certain memory prowess which enables us to associate aspects of our collecting experiences with our past. And when I go through these old collections and lots, I am reminded of those dreams of acquisition and fulfillment from my long ago past.
Just thinking out loud and meandering down memory lane...
