Hi Kelly,
I plan on attending the show the 19th to 23rd. I will be manning the US Cancellation Club's table. I was at the last Stampshow in Grand Rapids and it was great. Lots of dealers and exhibits. It is a nice venue. I hope to get to meet you there, maybe we can do lunch or dinner.
If any other club members attend stop by and say hello.
Vince
I'll be going to the Grand Rapids show - I only live 40 miles away.
My wife and I are planning on the first two days at least (Thurs & Fri).
I am SOOO looking forward to it!
Vince - I will certainly seek you out to shake the hand of a fellow SOR member!
Kelly - hope to meet you there as well!
Over 110 dealers! WOO-HOO! Gonna be fun!!
Make sure you pre-register online so you can skip the lines to get in!
Just get your nametag and walk on in!
Randy
I can barely stand the wait!
Poodlemum, vin, musicman and Doe,
Enjoy the show! Nothing better than actually sitting down and looking at a dealers stock. So much better than looking at an image on a computer screen.
Ernie
only 2 weeks to go....
....feel like I'm wishing the summer away!

Hi All!
This is your live on-location reporting SOR member, the Musicman, reporting to you live from downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan at the A.P.S. stampshow! LOL
It's almost 9am and I'm sitting at my laptop at the desk in my room at the Amway Grand Hotel, overlooking the views of the city I grew up in, out the window of the 24th floor...rainy, but still great views of the city waking up.
The show starts at 10am across the walkway from the hotel in the Devos Place event center.
If you are interested after all that (lol) I will be happy to give a days report on this, the opening day of the show. It ends today at 6pm. I will post each days events in the evening after dinner!
Let me know if you're interested!
Happy Stampin',
Musicman
Take some pictures!
If there is any way you can get some shots that show the vastness of the show -- bourse, exhibits, children's area, meetings, etc. -- that'd be awesome!
I ask about this specifically because I think a lot of people who've never been to this show don't realize how big it is. (And, in my view, how terrific it is!) I am never prouder of the hobby than after attending one of the APS shows. (I volunteered at the winter show in Riverside CA this past February.)
I have a stamp-collecting friend who lives a couple of hours from Grand Rapids, and yet I cannot convince that person to go to this show. Makes me want to bang my head against the wall!
Have a great time and do continue to check in and let us know how it's going. (And take some pics! )
Have a great time! I haven't been to a large show since the 1980s. I'm not sure if shows I attended like ASDA NYC are still the same size, larger or smaller today. I'd love to find out and am watching the show calendar.

You can't figure people! The largest model car show in the country is in New Jersey. People fly in from Europe and come from as far as California and all parts of Canada. Yet, there is a good size club about an hour away in New Jersey. Maybe half their members have never been to this event. If you ask they'll tell you it's too far! Heck, I drive further than that to attend their club meetings! :-)
I know, right?
I think the ASDA NY show has been in transition, changing venues, etc., so I'm not sure where it stands in terms of size right now.
But you'll have the big once-a-decade show in Manhattan next May!

Hi All,
Here are some pics from the G.R., Mich. A.P.S. Stamp Show from yesterday!
I'll post more tomorrow.
My wife and I are having a wonderful time here and plan on finishing up tomorrow so we can take Sunday off to relax.
It's been great fun! We met up with some SOR members at the show -even went to lunch with a few of them! Could not ask for better dinner company! Felt more like family!
Plus - my hometown (Greenville, MI) stamp club members came to the show as well, so we all had a fine time helping each other track down some of our interests.
And its always fun seeing many of the dealers who have become friends of mine.
I also met a few of the "dignitaries" (for lack of a better word) from the APS;
I was most impressed with Alex Haimann, the young vice president. I approached him to say hello and he immediately extended his hand with a genuine smile and was very outgoing, courteous and polite. He seemed geniunely interested in whether I was having a good time. And when we returned the following day (today) he approached us and welcomed us back as if we were"new/old" friends.....a very impressive young man.
Anyway, enjoy the pics!
Any questions, please ask!
I'll post more tomorrow and again on Sunday!
Randy
Wow! haven't seen a show that size since Orlando in 2000. Where I won the grand prize; practically the only thing I ever won in my life,BTW ; GB#1, penny black. Alas, the only stamp on the album page that burnt up entirely when our home burnt down. But I digress, many thanks for the picks, Randy.
Randy, thanks for the pictures--really nice! I was glad that you met Alex--he sounds to me like a wonderful person and just the man APS needs to encourage younger collectors!
Carl, has it really been 15 years since the StampShow was held in Orlando?! WOW!
I have never been to a major show although I have been in stamps since the early 60's. But, if I can hang in there and stay healthy, the APS Stampshow is coming to my doorstep in 2019-Omaha.
I still can't believe they did this, from what I have heard there is a cabal of eastern dealers who oppose having the show outside their area, expect maybe in California.
Thanks for showing these pictures, Randy!
I'm hoping these shots (and on Facebook I'm forwarding on the ones the APS is posting) will encourage people to make plans to get to an APS winter or summer show when it gets anywhere in their part of the country.
As I believe I said further up-thread, these shows will make you both glad and proud to be a stamp collector.
(And those east coast dealers don't like having the shows in California, either.)

Hi All,
This is your live action APS news reporter, coming to you from the third day of the G.R. Mich. stamp show!
....sorry - couldn't resist again....lol
Here are a few more pics from the show. Keep in mind, these are from my phone and taken on the show floor level, thus it is even bigger than the photos indicate.
I had a great time spending the day with my wife at the show. She is not even a collector, but she went every day with me and helped me find what I wanted. I intend on keeping her a L-O-N-G, L-O-N-G time!
The 2 fellas in the close-up are myself (obviously!) and Vince - a.k.a. 'vinman' - from right here on SOR. We are standing in front of his club's booth, the U.S. Cancellations Club.
Enjoy the pics!
I'll post the rest and a final summary tomorrow.

I plan on attending the New York show next year. Time to make my reservations now. The show organizers made some good deals on rooms. If you go, plan on at least 3-4 days to take in some of the show.
I have some pictures of the show, I just have to down load them to my computer and post them.
I picked up some literature at the show.

Is anyone going to the Stampshow in Grand Rapids, Michigan August 20-23?
My surgery this year is August 31st and after the past two years I want a great summer. I can't think of anything better than to end my summer with a bang by going to the show.
I can take the greyhound bus from here and meet up with others. I'm not certain how I'm going to pay for the hotel yet but if I don't do anything else all summer that would save my money.
Give it some thought and let me know as soon as you can. I know it's 5 months away but this is big doings for me and I'd love to make it happen if I can.
