A "good" plate proof will go anywhere from $500-$1500
This one was sold for $1500
I don't think that a torn one is worth $180
Must be NYStamps - anything he puts up creates a "feeding frenzy"
Also it looks a "little odd" for a proof - gum & perfs?

Here are four proofs being offered, buy it now, for $295.
Badly centered Scott #122's are being offered for thousands of dollars.
It's obvious to me that the proof shown in my first post was an attempt at creating a counterfeit.
Incidentally, it just sold for $224.72. The bidding list indicates to me that dealers were rather interested in it.
OMG! I found another one, 78P3, offered by a dealer with over 50,000 transactions. This one is somewhat shady, since it states that it's unused, no gum.
NICE PERFS!

With 15-20 million new collectors in China (estimated 1/3 of world) eager for US stamps, lots of cash & little knowledge, these "rarities" are going to be plentiful. Genuine older valuable stamps are going to be a very good investment again.
The new middle class in China is busy consuming! Good news is that they LOVE American cars, so companies like Ford and GM are doing well there. I work for an international company so I deal with facilities around the world daily. My Chinese colleague was very proud to tell me he owns a Buick Century!
Maybe a little off topic of the US but somewhat appropriate
"An article quote
Seeing Asia as the inevitable future of the market, he co-founded XXXXXXXXXX, a Hong Kong firm, two years ago, which has sold $6 million worth of stamps since. The owner says he was amazed when he made his first trip to see the Hong Kong market and hosted a sale of Chinese stamps. "You go to a New York auction, you might have 10 or 12 people, and one guy comes in on a cane or another with an oxygen tank," he says. "But here at my first sale in Hong Kong, I couldn't believe it—the room was full. There were young people—I mean, under 50 years old—and they were all bidding. I never saw anything like it. This doesn't happen in America.""
Double WOWS
Dear Guys,
If we're all interested in proofs, perhaps exploring swaps might be of some interest?
Just asking.
Best,
Dan C
What the heck is going on here? This gem, with a repaired tear, was offered by one of the largest dealers on EBay, with no further description other than front and back pictures.
With an hour to go, there have been 12 bidders, mostly more knowledgable with over 500 transactions.
