Latin America/All : I recently found the pictured stamp in a lot and had trouble figuring out what is was. Now I need a Scotts # for this Lottery Ticket Stamp.

Could someone furnish me with a Cat. Number for this stamp which I know now is a Lottery ticket stamp. What is the ID # in a scotts or some other catalog.

It is a Revenue stamp. I looked up "Thesouro Federal" legend and that was the key to iding it as a revenue.

Is it worth anything? Or, what is the Cat. Value?

Thanks Mitch Sapp

It is part of a 1905 series & the lowest denomination that goes up to 50,000R
Unfortunately no cat# but it will not be worth much

{EDIT: I see that nl1947 beat me to it. Thumbs Up }

It will not be listed in the Scott catalog since it is a non-US revenue.

In the Forbin catalog, it is Brazil #153(1905) in the general listings (not under the Thesouro listings). It is listed at the catalog minimum value.

Where did you get the info that it was a lottery ticket stamp???

Thanks for the quick response for an Id!

Stamporama fans have always been helpful. I have recently gone through my collections and pulled all the Brazil stamps and now have them all cataloged by the style and variety. Now to check all the wm's and perforation! This I will do in the next few months and put some of the duplicates on Stamporama.

I looked it up online and found it in a image gallery for Brazil stamps. I then looked up the phrase Thesoundo Federal on the web and found that it was a Lottery stamp.

OK, now I understand where you got it from.

The stamp is actually inscribed Thesouro Federal (Federal Treasury -- hence revenue stamp).

I believe Brazilian Lottery tickets of the early 1900s were inscribed "Capital Federal". Revenue stamps were put on them to indicate payment. But as far as I know, they were not dedicated Brazilian lottery ticket stamps -- just general revenue stamps that could also be applied to lottery tickets. However, I am open to correction, since I don't collect Brazilian revenues. Maybe nl1947 or somebody else knows.
