According to 2009 Scott, the 2003 Norway 1k (and also 2k) posthorn numbered 1283 (and 1284) has a variety with "horiz. rows of dots between vert. lines." A note below the listing further states that the "dots between vertical lines... are arranged diagonally."

Does anyone have a scan, or a link to one, so I'll know what I'm looking for?

I believe this is an example of the 1K stamp you are referring to (without the variety).

That's the type, but is it the dotted variety? There are vertical lines in the background inside the oval, but I don't see any dots between the lines.

Is the dotted variety obvious or subtle?

re: Norway: what do the dots look like on the 2003 1kr posthorn?

Thanks, it appears I was less than clear in the original post, but the 1283 was issued in 2001 and the 1283a variety was issued in 2003.

Anyway, that last link described the varieties differently so I went back and read Scott again. Apparently 1283a has horizontal rows of dots, while 1283 has diagonal rows of dots. Since I hadn't seen any dots, I went in the back room and dug out some more magnifiers. Happy Holding a loupe and a magnifier in my right hand, and the stamp in question in tongs in my left, all under the desk arm magnifier (total of three glasses, plus my spectacles) under a strong light, I was able to see that there are indeed hundreds of tiny dots of the metallic ink that make up the background between the lines. On the two examples I own, the eye tends to see them as laid out in diagonals. Wish I had the other kind to compare... Guess I'll go root through some glassines and see if I have another one somewhere.

Thanks again,
Chris
