I thought it might be a company security marking; check out this site, which I've added to our Links page, for great info on this topic. But I could not find anything like it listed there. Perhaps it is a postal or ship cancel?
Peter
Is there a chance it might only be the first part of a word, or are these cancels usually only 4 letters?
Sally
Sally, there is every chance that this marking is longer than 4 letters. It may well be the name of an individual or a Company.
The website linked to in cocolectible's post, lists every reported company perfin, security marking and forwarding agent etc. on Hong Kong material. There is nothing on there closely resembling it.
It's my guess this is a private security marking.
Hi Everyone;
Could this have anything to do? Seems Droz is common name over there?
found this on the internet;
"
Jaquet Droz Opens Second Flagship Boutique in Hong Kong
News | September 2012
A bubbly toast to Jaquet Droz, who flung open the doors to its second flagship boutique
in Hong kong on September 13"
Thanks for your tip TR. This has lead me to discover Pierre Jaquet-Droz, a watchmaker who also built animated dolls, or automata, to help his company sell watches. To quote Wikipedia: "His astonishing mechanisms fascinated the kings and emperors of Europe, China, India, and Japan." I think there must be a link here somewhere. I will keep digging.
Linus
I just saw a cover tonight for a watch company called Droz and Perret (I think). That may also be a link.
Yes it appears to be a private security marking for the Jaquet Droz Company, a Swiss maker of watches and mechanical dolls and birds. If you go to www.jaquet-droz.com and click on their "History" tab, they were represented by sales agents in Canton, China back in the late 1700s. The DROZ name is still in use today on fine watches.
Thanks, for helping me solve this one.

Excellent detective work folks! I love this site!
Hi Everyone;
Farrr Outtt!
Yes this was fun wasn't it? Everyone should get a hernia surgery, so you can trip out
on these great drugs.
Still trippin'....

I call this stamp "Doctor OZ" and have never quite figured it out. Anybody know where this DROZ cancellation could possibly be from? When you Google DROZ, you get all kinds of info about the Doctor Oz Show on TV.
