Very cool.
That is cool Ernie....

i wish i had room on my desk !!!
I wish I had a desk
absolutely fabulous
I would've bought that too!
That is so cool. Is it operational?
Yep... works great. I've got the key and everything!
Hey Ernie,
I know this is an old thread, but I just recently saw one of these for sale at a local flea market, albeit in a LOT worse condition than yours.
They wanted W-A-A-Y too much for it and wouldn't budge on price.
Mind if I ask what you paid for yours??
Mornin' Randy,
Yeah that thing was a total impulse buy (aren't most flea market purchases?
It's literally in perfect shape. Leads me to believe it didn't see much use even when it was hanging on the wall somewhere.
I think I gave the guy $25 can't remember exactly. That number sounds right. It makes me smile when I look at it sometimes hahaha. I guess I'm easily amused. There was a time when every country convenience store had one. Just nostalgia.
Yeah, I remember seeing them as well.
I think you made a good buy at that price.
The one I saw was really rusted and you couldn't read most of it and the guy wanted 15 bucks and wouldn't budge.
I left him there not budging......
That was a deal Ernie! I would've bought a dozen!
When I've seen them for sale they're usually beat up and asking $100
I saw a Canadian one on Kijiji recently, appeared in perfect condition. (Can't recall, but it may have been on a stand?) Also looked to have booklets in the three windows. Was asking $150 which I thought was pricey.
I asked if he was willing to negotiate on price and if there were any booklets/stamps in the contraption. 2 messages, no answers, then a price drop to $125 after a month with just 12 looks. Another message, another week with no reply...
My parents were antique dealers after they retired and I went to lots of auctions, stores and shows with them. Have never seen one of these for sale and I'm sure they don't make them anymore, so I might bite if I see it at $100.
Any idea when these disappeared from use? I recently came across a "private booklet" in THE HOARD and it sold pretty quickly.
Cheers, Dave.
there were several in the 33rd street entrance to the back offices of the James A Farley GPO in NYC about a decade ago. they're gone now, but were there not long ago.
Check out what I bought at the flea market looks awesome on my desk!
