I am trying to find out the correct Scott # for this stamp of Germany.

Image Not Found

According to Scott the # 79 is perf 14; # 93 is perf 14 1/2.

This stamp is perf 14 1/2 x 14

The catalog states that # 93 in brackets is 25x17 holes. What does that mean?

So what am I missing in trying to get the correct catalog number?

Thanks for all help you can provide.

Doug

Hi Doug. I just sent Manfred (philastore) a SOR message about your post. He is my go-to guy here in the States on Germany and should be able to supply the correct answer for your item.

The number of holes refers to the whole perforation holes, either top or bottom, and sides on the stamps. This helps to ID the different printings with the same perf gauge reading.

No guarantee, my take is 2011 Scott #79, and 1971 Minkus #77.

Minkus lists perf 14 1/2 and perf 14 1/2 x 14 with 26x17 holes issued March 20 1902,the 26x17 holes matches the number of perf holes on your stamp 26 horizontal and 17 vertical.

Doug, per Scott's, # 93 has a lozenge watermark, # 79 has no watermark.

re: Germany Scott # 79 or 93

Thank you for all the help.

I have my answer. I forgot to check the watermark. I was more thrown by the perforations.

The stamp I have is # 93. The holes and the watermark match my stamp.

Thank you everyone.
