Hi Chris,
Yes, I had looked and read thru that site and was planning to use it for checking the base stamps. What did not register in my mind when reading it was the quote about the overprint that you pointed out. This will help out greatly. Thanks for bring it to my attention.

The information applies to the overprints on the Aloe Tree stamps (Scott #1-6). It does not necessarily apply to the Russian stamps that were overprinted. On the Russian overprinted stamps will be found many different types of forged overprints.
I checked The Serrane Guide, but it doesn't offer much help on the Russian overprinted stamps. I also checked "Album Weeds", but I do not know what Batum was called in that reference work, so I couldn't find it. Funny I could find it in the French book, but not the English...
Hi Michael. Yes, it the Aloe Tree issue overprints that I was interested in. I will start checking them this week vs the web page Chris posted. Once done, will probably offer them here on SOR for other members that may be interested in them.

Completely off-topic, but I recently visited Batum ( now Batumi ) on a Black Sea cruise. A fascinating place - I can recommend a visit - difficult for access other than on a cruise I would think.

I am interested in any used Batum stamps. I believe this one is genuine.
Hi Everyone;
Here is a dumb question. Why couldn't someone obtain a genuine Batum stamp and apply a
fake overprint? Then the font characteristics would be of interest.
Just a thought....

BeeSee- looks good to me.
As for the overprints, here is another genuine copy. The font should be clear enough on this scan. This one has also been "jkjblue certified" in the past .
I have 2 small stock cards of the Batum British Occupation overprinted stamps from 1919 & 1920. I have found a couple of websites which discuss the base stamps and the differences between real & fake ones, but have not seen anything on the type of font used for the overprints. Does anyone know of a website which has examples of the overprints that I can use for comparison purposes??
Thanks in advance
