I admit my Green's is old. Just got in a bunch of poster stamps and seals and a few booklets, this being one of them. Seals are dated 1928. Any ideas?

Greg

Very nice!

The lettering is definitely Japanese. So either Japan or Japanese-language territory/area.

Could you show a close-up pic of a single stamp, as I cannot make out the inscriptions on the stamp. Thank you!

A single stamp and the back cover: Don't know why it isn't in the Greens catalog. And I see the seals are 1929

Sorry Sam, I missed your post. You are correct, it is Japan. I wasn't sure if it was Japan or Ryukyus at first, even though the 1929 date should have eliminated the latter.

Thank you for the additional pic, Greg!

Hmmm, if it is not in the Green catalog...

There is a remote possibility that it might be older Taiwan, since it was a Japanese territory at that time. I'm only acquainted with 1960s+ TB seals from Taiwan. But pre-1950 seals...???

Is there a section for Taiwan or Formosa in the Green catalog?

Sean,

Green's (always shown as the possessive) catalogue is the bible for TB seals. it comes in three parts: US national; US locals; and foreign. It is similar to Scott for US national seals from 1907-1979, although Green's admits more varieties and illustrates them far better. Its numbering system is different, with 1907's two seals being numbered as 7.1 and 7.2, rather than WX1 and WX2 so that the primary number corresponds to the year of issue.

Green is Dick Green, one of the legends of seal collecting. The current editor of US nationals is Stephen Nawrocki.

Thanks David. I am not much of a TB seal collector, but I do have an almost full set of Ryukyu TB seals.
