You need a good picture editor/viewer. I suggest IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) . Note that some anti-virus programs will warn you against IrfanView when you download or initiate the program. I have been using IrfanView since 2005 and have never encountered even minimal problems. If you have doubts, Google the program name and read the glowing reviews before downloading.

I also suggest that you scan items using a black background. This is not really necessary, but it does make cleaning up stamp images much easier.

Most editor/viewers are similar. The tutorial that follows is presuming the use of IrfanView. In this tutorial I assume no computer skills, but as I have been using computers in some fashion or the other since the late 1960s, I still might have unknowingly made assumptions and left out basic information - feel free to message me if my instructions are lacking.

The tutorial begins with your original scan. Because there are dozens (if not 10s of dozens) scanners out there, I will not presume to give you scanner instructions. Please consult your owner's manual (remember, almost all owner's manuals are online in some form or another).

Nicely done Bobby.
I love this program. Now there are no excuses for posting below par scans! It really just takes seconds to process a scan and make the image usable and clear , once you get the hang of it.
Very clearly explained Bobby. Thanks
